i'd venture to suggest that a mass produced board: Sells far more units than a racing dinghy Takes far less time to build Uses far less materials Is made of much cheaper materials Has had far less R&D on a specific model Has far lower tooling costs Are manufactured abroad at far lower unit cost for most of the above reasons And therefore that they can, maybe, afford to give a few thousand away. And might still earn a profit even at that price. |
