Working on a way of spreading a bit of fun with my local 400 fleet I decided to work on a system of altering handicap based on result only.
I obtained a set of results from our early season all in and by applying the following system created new handicaps for each boat which change after each race.
So race one all boats race of py(943 for a 400) race winner looses 20 points second looses 10 points, last place add 20 points second to last adds 10 points.
After the 10 races and applying the new py each time we had a spread of 883 to 1003.
I applyed the system to our Solstice regatta and will do so to the regatta in September and will present suitable prizes to the winners.
I think you can use this system on any fleet but may need to adjust it for handicap racing as the % 20points make will vary hugly across a range from oppie to foiling moth.
Give it a go and let me know how it works for you. It would give people something else to discuss in the bar after racing.
Regards
Gordon

Sounds very similar to Eastbournes PRATT series.
Someone on here will know what PRATT stands for.

There are loads of ways of handicapping like this. I think there are past discussions. Often good to dual score a series with standard and personal handicaps. The way we do it at my club is to calculate a handicap on past performance and use it all season on a couple of specific series which are dual scored. Used like that its an improvers trophy.

dual scoring  series can be fun as can having  specific trophies / series for people  whose personal handicap is above a certain level ... ( and  biggest decrease across the season )
