Sorry to bung this here, I need a set of plans for a modern sailing club, we're in negotiation with out local council to upsticks and move lock stock to a slightly bigger location with possibly cleaner wind.
Trying to get hold of someone from Worthing as I believe they just rebuilt with council assistance.
Or advice from anyone who've gone down this path.

Ah, dealing with politicos. So you will need to cover all the politically-correct stuff about inclusiveness, demonstrating that it's not a virtually exclusive white, middle-class, male dominated sport for the well off. Try gathering a poll of members' occupations to counter at least part of that myth. Our fantastic Sailability section helps with this too, but that is something far harder to provide where you are.
The argument that at Premier League football season ticket holder spends more watching than most dinghy sailors spend participating is a handy one.
Another problem for coastal locations like yours is that councils can make far more money fleecing motorists for car-parking, let alone selling the land for residential development, than it can charging a sailing club.
So good luck - you can always name-drop Nelson and our sea-faring history.
We run lots of RYA training and also give free-taster sails as well as having a successful open day, aimed at making sailing and FPSC accessible to all, which seems to tick yes too.
Finally, you could always ask what they want from you; at least then you can prepare the arguments as to why you cannot achieve the unachievable.
Good luck - we look forward to the opening party and regatta

The council at Highcliffe must be raking it in. Something like £15 per day at the DZero champs last weekend. I parked 5 minutes walk away for free.

One of the most positive message things when doing the Solo Nations Cup at Riva del Garda was the free pass to use the town's main car park ... The progressive Italians see sailing as something that promotes and does good for the town

In fairness the guy marshalling the arrival of competitors was advising competitors on where to go for free street parking at Highcliffe. I couldn't fault Highcliffe SC's organisation both on and off the water over the long weekend :)

No. not quite like that at all, we are locked in on either side with nimbys, some even move in, complain about our planning application for a small extension, then having lost us the application they move out.
So there is a large tract of land between us and the next suburb, about two miles of undeveloped coastline and the last chance for a bit more room next the sea and the council are going to develop it anyway. We're kind of being used along with a leisure centre as a couple of reasons to kick the door in, then there will be about 150 homes built and the road redirected so the properties, hopefully including our new club if our members decide to elect to move, will be next to the sea.
I've managed to locate and contact the Commodore of Worthing SC who has just undergone what we're thinking of and I'm going to pop down and visit him tomorrow ahead of a crunch meeting for us on wednesday, I was just casting around for similar projects and any plans that might have already been drawn up for a modern club next to the sea.
Anyway thanks for the responses, we'll see how it goes. Needless to say the local nimbys are on the march to try and prevent the entire development, they stopped a marina development some years ago that would have been excellent for the area, they are a bloody nuisance, old people waiting to die basically, move down fill up the area, contribute nothing but complaints on tap. Back when I had a half decent sized company attracting staff down here was a nightmare, with nothing to do, nowhere to go, this development could at least cheer up the sea front with a few restaurants, clubs, bars and the like Riviera style.

Hi Grf
I will see if i can get hold of our drawings, our will be 3 storey as we will have a narrow plot and changing room elsewhere. But of course the sodding snooker tables stay on site!
I would try and get hold of Parkstones to show what can be done to the council I think there build cost is only 4.5million easy for a rich guy like yourself to fund.

Offer to teach them sailing in a couple of old Solos? And then offer them a Viking funeral...

It's not the nimbys you need to worry about, it's the bananas....

I tell you what, that Worthing Sailing Club is nice, they've done really well and they have a really genned up Commodore almost as sharp as the one we have. ;-)

If your club is affiliated to the RYA get in touch with them - that's why they are there. They can assist with legal advice, club leases, put a 'stamp of approval' with the council and generally point you in the right direction...

That's a joke right? That might have been the case back in the day, but not these days, sorry not interested, didn't help us, were no help to worthing either, you're dreaming if you still think the RYA is fit for purpose.

I can only speak for my club, RYA have been a tremendous help to us over the years, grants, helping with grants from other organisations, etc.

+1. My club has raised a huge amount of money in recent years, partly from grants, and the RYA were very helpful. The other side of that is the grant bodies tend to want a view of a clubs application for funding from the relevant sports governing body, in our sports case that's the RYA like it or not. Bottom line is poor relationship with the RYA = little chance of big money grant applications being successful

Well we contacted them three weeks ago now, so maybe they'll be coming back to us later this year, who knows, but in the meanwhile we won't be holding our breath. The only time you hear from them is when they want something, which I now tend to ignore like this latest census document they keep resending.

If I was an RYA RDO I'd be inclined to spend my time and efforts helping those clubs that value and appreciate my work. Many clubs/few RDO's mean you're competing for their time and effort, and with the greatest of respect with the attitude you seem to have I'm not surprised you haven't got very far !
