Following on from the excellent post from dougaldog, what about health issues that silver sailors suffer. Knees, and backs, obvious problem areas, anyone got any good remedial actions for those? I suffer from finger joint problems that I suspect have not been helped, if not possibly caused, by dinghy racing, anyone else got that one, and any fixes apart from the nasty "medication" currently on offer from the NHS?

A lot of golfers swear by "WD40" sprayed onto joints, Google it and a lot of articles debunk it "official medical" etc, however the same people debunked "Gaffer tape" to remove Verrucas, which is now a reccomended treatment.

Bowen is the name of the treatment you should try for aches and pains, low impact, works on your general posture. They use it on racehorses, so it must be good, make you feel like a stallion again...

If you can face making yourself up to do regular core strengthening/stretching exercises, back and knee injuries are less likely.

Is their a range of exercises specific to core strengthening for sailing ?

I'm no expert but the usual ones - the plank, and different sorts of sit-ups all seem to help. If you Google "exercises for hiking dinghies" you can take your pick of the advice offered.

Me too. I put it down to dehydration caused either by too little water consumption whilst sailing day 1, or too much beer consumption following day 1.

Elbows are my latest problem area from sailing, following knees, back, shoulders, neck and toes.

Rupert, sounds like a "ditty from a variety show", sing it to the tune "hands knees and bumpsy daisy"
Sounds like you are in the market for a keel boat.
