Regularly we see chandlers and suppliers getting a slating for poor service so I thought it only fair to share a happy tale:

I bought a second hand dinghy last year that had been fitted out with Allen fittings/parts.

A minor, bur still irritating, issue had arisen.

An email later and Allen called me to discuss it. They then called back having diagnosed the problem (all in less than 24 hrs).

The bits I needed were sent and arrived less than 24 hrs later- All FREE OF CHARGE !

Can't fault that (especially as it was a second had boat) !

Compare that with another well known chandler/dinghy supplier from whom I purchased a brand new dinghy. When I put it all together at home I discovered that one item was wrong (for another dinghy).

When I called them they refused to send me the correct part until the incorrect one was returned, at my cost.

Chalk and cheese !

Well done to Allens ...

You should also name the other less capable company so other people know who are the duds ...

I'll second that.  I have had a wire cage mainsheet jammer replaced following some self inflicted damage.  This was a totally unexpected response that I very gratefully accepted.  This was back when Kim was still alive, so good to see that the recent changes haven't impacted their great service.

Last year an Allen fitting on my mainsheet track failed.  The boat was not that old and had been professionally fitted out, so I contacted Allen.  They said the wrong track slide had been put on the boat by the fitter they and sent me the right one FOC.   Brilliant.

Last year bought a replacement mainsheet jammer for my RS800 from RS. It was not suitable as it only worked with the new 800 deck layout.

Allens came up trumps by finding an old style jammer at the back of stores. Top marks.
