I assume everyone is getting paid to travel to Bermuda, there's a first prize of $5000 but that wouldn't cover the air fare ...

think its a normal regatta in that most pay their own way with a winners incentive, everyone had to be invited though, but i think you could just ask and you got invited

Why, do you only fly 1st class?

I'm sure a return flight to Bermuda from London carrying an 11ft 35kg box would cost more than a normal flight ;)

Not sure they're taking the boats on a plane, it's a bit of a myth I think. After hearing some Moth chat most containered out.

Yeah, why on earth go an sail somewhere warm and sunny. It's not like it's winter here.

but there's also Australian nationals, NZ nationals blah blah where its hot windy and not uk winter fun etc

so getting people to go to Bermuda isn't actually that easy if you have to pay for flights, accom, shipping etc

that's why I thought it made sense because if you only have to fly its cheap winter fun sailing

Do they have a NZ nationals now?  I though the Int. Moths had died there once again?

If we're being pedantic, was it 8 boats from NZL, or 8 boats owned by NZ nationals who are currently domiciled elsewhere? Probably somewhere between the two I expect.

As I work for the IRD in New Zealand I am able to confirm the individual domicile status of all of the NZ entries for the 2015 Int Moth Worlds in Sorrento Vic

On this, a very public, forum I feel it appropriate to confirm that only 4 of those entered are domicile in the land of the long white cloud and of those 1 is entitled to free medical insurance

As I am also the CEO of yachting New Zealand I can confirm that even though there are 3 other moth sailors in NZ along with these four individuals they do not meet Yachting NZ's requirements to hold a national title.

Consequently there are no nationals in NZ.

I wasn't being pedantic in asking whether the NZ had a Moth nationals - I was interested in whether the spurt of interest a few years back had subsided again.

It does say a lot about the sport, its current course and its future that one of the world's top sailing nations has only seven active Int. Moth sailors.  Obviously such boats, wonderful as they are, cannot be the future of the sport as so many in administration and the sailing media are claiming -  unless, of course, the sport has no future.

Thanks for the information.

My information may be inaccurate ;)

D'oh!  Where's the embarrassed moji?  In my defence, we have had NZ Yachting honchos here lately.

Actually from the web it looks as if half of the NZ Mothies are AC sailors who would spend most of their time offshore.  I saw another pile of carp from our once-great Australian Sailing mag today, claiming as usual that foilers were the future and multis were growing.  When I read that stuff I reach for my revolver.

Chris,

Multis are growing: longer, wider, taller (once up on foils).  Just not numerically...
