Didn't expect the dinner and social for the Tiger to be the weekend before the actual sailing event

Looks like all the descriptions (which are for the 2015 events) on the site need to be updated to reflect the 2016 dates.

Record advance entry for this weekend's Fernhurst Books Draycote Dash,  GJW Direct SailJuice Winter Series Round 1.

Currently standing at 99 boats (previous best 70),  with online entry closing tonight at discounted fee.  The Dash has a Max entry of 130 boats,  so if not already entered and you intend to race important to Enter NOW.

Looking at the latest stats,  39 classes represented,  with D-Zeros topping the charts at 9 boats,  followed by Lasers (8 boats).  Encouragingly several double handers showing a strong presence,  with Scorpions at 6,  RS800 (5),  GP14s (4) and RS400 (4).  Surprisingly no Aeros currently entered

15 classes are fielding 3 or more boats,  which will put them in a strong position for the New Top Class Award,  based on best three results across the Series.

Post Racing on Saturday,  a Q&A session with Nick Craig,  current title holder for the GJW Direct SailJuice Winter Series and multiple class champion -  chance to learn from the Master himself.

Just heard that SailJuice have opened several events to include multihulls - is it just me or is that just a recipe for disaster mixing big fast cats with vastly slower dinghies. The iMoths are bad enough as they scream through upwind at mind-boggling speeds, but the cats are just so much bigger my concern is the inability to maneuver in a tight situation on these venues.

Maybe I'm just over concerned but wondering who might be thinking the same - I'm doing Datchet Flyer and when I did it last with the B14 it was hectic to say the least (especially being rammed from behind by a young 29er team who then proceeded to not understand the basic rules of mark rounding)...chuck in these bigger cats and I just wonder if some "cat"astrophe (cue groans for the pun) is just bound to happen.

Correct and a badly sailed Hobie 16 was causing havoc on the B course this year.

Badly sailed anythings have the potential to cause trouble. Don't think there's anything special about multihulls. When I was doing the big winter events both Grafham and Pompey had multihulls and I never recall any issues at all. I'd have a few more doubts if it were kite surfers I must admit.

My (biggish) lake based club bans cats for no other reason than the number of hulls.  It seems to me that a 14 or 15ft cat is no longer, wider or quicker than something like an RS800 or Musto.  They are also less likely to run aground or capsize.  Prejudice is alive and well in my experience, but the thought of sharing a course with a kite would scare me!

Which would snag the mast before it got to the helm and cause far more problems to the scary kitesurfer if he/she were stupid enough to come close to sailboats

However if the scary kitesurfer is racing on the same course as the sailboats its going to be rather difficult for him not to come close to sailboats.

Musto is considerably faster than a dart 18 around a course, you'd need an something like a spitfire or f16 or bigger to be appreciably quicker to be honest

Come on, not really simply about speed is it.
My beef with Cats is inexpert boat handlers not being able to turn corners efficiently or cope with the acceleration surge on a bear away when deciding how to deal with crossing boats.

As opposed to inexpert skiff sailors capsizing at every gybe and hoist?  Or old Solo sailors having slow reactions and poor rules obeyance? Or any other prejudicial stereotype?

Are there likely to be any inexpert boat handlers at the SailJuice series?

True of course but at least your opposing examples have low inertia and less potential for high impact damage.

Needless to say my bigotry applies much further abroad than the mostly expert SailJuice participants.

The people who seem to have most "prejudice" about kite-surfers are those who have actually had the experience of sharing water with them e.g. the windsurfers of West Wittering and Hayling.

Presumably flogging kite-surfing equipment for a living doesn't induce any "prejudice"on your part?
