My gut reaction is to say don't be stupid, but is there a way to get creases out of a sail?

I've just acquired a sail that has been barely used, but looks like it has been stored by just shoving it in a sack, so I'm wondering if it could be smoothed out.

Any suggestions?

I guess you can, just not too hot. Whether it would actually be hot enough to get the creases out is another matter. butlers used to iron newspapers for their masters back in the day

how times have changed.... today's butler will often start his day screen-wipe in hand.

It's often advisable to flush the internet history whilst they're at it too.  A good butler has always known the value of discretion.

I wouldn't be ironing sails!

if you have a deep crease in a sail, roll it the opposite way and leave it to relax over night,

best to simply use it, the creases will shake out over a period maybe not all together but best option by far

Or go sailing regularly and get the crease out that way, making sure not to crease it again when putting it away. Irons can be used to soften sail number glue, mind, so it doesn't actually harm a sail to iron it, unless you melt it...

Someone gave me a buggered Javelin genoa once so I stuck it in the washing machine, pegged it flat between three trees and varnished it with acrylic varnish on both sides. It sort of worked as well! if I ever did it again, which I never will, I would paint it with vinyl emulsion thinned. It should work the same but be whiter. 'Necessity is the mother of invention'.

I once ironed out leech tabling on a Dacron Grad Genoa.  It worked.....but I would only consider it on a sail that was othrwise useless!
