So I decided that the slot gasket on the Grad needed changing so I took the old one off, measured it, and ordered new sailcloth strips from a reputable UK chandelry.
Unfortunately the strips have no eyelet with which to tension then, so what's the best way forward?
I could buy some eyelets and hammer them in.
Just punch a hole through, seal it with a hot poker and hope they hold.
Fold the end over and sew then to make a loop.
What's the consensus?

Sailcloth strips? Eyelets? What sorcery is this then? Why no Hawk, glue pot and sticky fingers like the rest of us?

Because dear Graeme, my Graduate is a wooden boat with a metallic keelband which is used to hold down a sail cloth gasket. Much easier than arseing about with contact adhesive and trying to cut a dead straight line in a piece of plastic.
Sailcloth gasket strips are secured by the keelband ahead of the centreboard case then tensioned and stuck in position with double sided tape. The metallic keel band is then screwed down and the tension can be released. The gasket is then trimmed and the other side can then be done.
I've now bought some eyelets which I will hammer in tomorrow prior to gasket fitting over the weekend.

If that's all you are doing, could you staplegun them to a bit of wood and have the hole in the wood for tensioning it?
