Amazing determination! Hats off to him for competing under those circumstance. 

I do wonder how sensible it is to compete with such a bad injury... sometimes you should listen to your body. I would certainly advise anyone not to try and sail, or really compete when on painkillers.

Mark,

The personal insights type articles are a great idea - though it does involve the person actually having something to communicate and an interesting back story, which is where this one really scores. I guess many pro sailors, as with pros in any sport, can be so focused as to make interviews slightly one dimensional.

He works. Just one of the great things about being a really, really good sailor is that work turns into coaching Olympic hopefuls and the like.

but if you don't need to work you can sail all day and get good, if you have to work you can't. I'm only being jealous because I'd love to do the same ;) .......
