soz i'm just trying to solve all my problems during winter and was just wondering if anyone could help me as when i'm sailing in what i would call normal position but in light to medium winds the nose of my boat sticks realy high out of the water so i don't go that fast and the only way i can resolve it is going forward to the crew straps and sailing from there which is a task in it's self as the tiller will hardly reach and the main is going back the other way so that gets twisted around and trying to hike in strapt designed for 8 years old with legs abut 50 cm long isnt that comfy. but is it any thing im doing wrong do you think or am i just to heavy for the boat. thanks Katg

If you put a few full-stops and commas in the appropriate places, we might have a clue what you are saying.

LOLLOLLOL Do you ever breathe, katg?

What boat are you talking about? Is that the Topaz?

And Stefan, before you take the moral high ground on katg's minimal to non-existent use of punctuation, you've got to remember we've seen much worse on this forum. At least, her spelling is reasonably accurate! (trust me, I'm a teacher Big smileOuch)

Nothing "moral" about it. It's just about effective communication, particularly when you are asking for help. Do you think failing to point out that what katg has written is almost incomprehensible would be doing her a favour?

If the nose of the boat is up then your sat too far back, in light winds you need to lift the transom as much as possible, even if it means being really uncomfy...

Light winds were never meant to be comfy, just stick it out and wait for the breeze

Are you hiking at this point?  If so try a longer extension and twist you shoulders to the front of the boat.

Hi Katg

There has to be a problem your boat if it's nose is "really" sticking up and you are finding it that hard to keep it down. The obvious first thing to check is the bung. Is it in and is it tight. Can you hear any water sloshing about when you move about the boat?

Get your crew to sit in front of the mast, while you sit by the shrouds (get a new tiller extension if you need one obviously). I am assuming the Topaz is a 2 man boat...

On most boats the crew can tack standing in front of the mast in light wind, so the crew weight keeps the transom out of the water. Practise this BEFORE a race

1. yep it is the topaz

2. it happens when im sitting in (not hiking)

3. I clear the bung before and after i sail and make sure its fully tight (i always check coz my mate went out once with out one in at all in a topper and had to get recued.

4. it is a two man boat but i sail it single handed coz i can easily handle the boat and argue alot when i sail with some one.

5. oh and funny enough i talk with realy long sentances with out taking a breath in the middle aswell and my mates are always taking the mick out of me for it!!!

and thanks for everyones suggestions so far.
