Toppers are now gone, almost, onto the next challenge.
The lads Laser lives upside down on the stacker under a tree at home. I want an undercover to keep the boat clean BUT if it's not waterproof the Top cover will fill up and if it is waterproof what will it do to the gelcoat?
Suggestions please, has anyone tried one of those felt things?

Keep it upside down and use a breathable undercover?

No real idea of the osmosis risk, but I would be wary of having a PVC type undercover wrapped over the hull all winter out of doors.

Put the undercover over the top cover?

If it lives upside down, don't  put the top cover on.

Could you not create some form of shelter for the boats, otherwise get the kids to wash their boats every weekend

You could use a waterproof covering but leave a decent air gap between hull and cover - some form of tent to go over, with supports to keep it off the boat. If it is just to keep the boats clean it could just be as simple as a tarpaulin slung over a washing line arrangement - poles at either end of the boat with a line between and tent peg tie downs at the sides to hold the tarp out.

Just sail it every weekend and keep it at the club.

 sounds sensible

after all if a boat is left  'right way up' with just a top cover the hull is  exposed

Thank you kindly for the many & varied replies. You all missed the obvious ' empty the garage', best not go there.

Who said "leave a decent air gap between hull and cover" ?
That's where I was going with the felt undercover, with a waterproof over the top. But that's 2 undercovers to buy.

Think in the short term I'll order a cheapy and use it without the top cover. It's not a massive issue at the moment but it will be if we invest in a better boat, see how he goes at the inlands.

One suggestion for a boat on the cvrda site was to use astroturf between hull and tarps to greate an air layer.
