All the chit chat going on about aero v zero, and every now and again, a little flea passes across my line of vision regarding a strange little antipodean contraption with trap, always slightly light blue, everyone applauds... well who's buying?

Should that not be 'building' rather than 'buying'?

Butler Boats are selling- it's never going to be one for delusions of mass appeal, that's what makes it so appealing. 😋

... and to my knowledge there are currently three being built by amateur builders here in the UK. Butler Boats have lined up local suppliers for rigging and sails, which helps. The fact that it isn't SMOD adds a certain appeal.

It's a beautiful boat but clearly doesn't have the same target audience as the Aero or D-Zero.

Yup... I'd agree with ChrisB14.

Getting serious traction for the class in the UK is a little chicken and egg.

In a perfect world a small group of sailors from a club would all ring up Butler Boats, buy several boats and instantly create a fleet. And hey preston, much more 'faith' in the class as a whole would exist. It's possible this could happen.

But more likely that the class will slowly build due to people interested in a specific home build project.

I've had a lot on my plate recently so I had to sell on my boat and was hoping that the new owner would really get behind the promotion. And that the regular sailing at his club would winkle out a couple of boats. But as with these things you need a little luck. And that hasn't currently quite happened yet.

I should be in a state to start thinking about my own home build at the end of next year. If all things going to plan. But you can see form that, that time marches on even when you are committed to something like I obviously am!

It's a great boat. Exciting and rewarding to sail, but not requiring high levels of fitness. Fast enough. Has a great set of rules. Was designed by one of the worlds great yacht designers. Suits pretty much every location you can think of and suits a wide target audience. It has an existing and very supportive, organised NZ class association with AC sailors in the technical committee positions. They have reconfigured there structure so they are effectively operating as a 'world body' and are really hopeful that we can get our class up to a critical mass as soon as possible. And are willing to help in as many ways as they can. It should be a 'no brainer' for people wanting a really user friendly single handed trap boat.

All the UK3.7 needs is a few more people to commit and you could have a truly fantastic class with international expectations.

Simple really.

Worth noting that an enthusiasts run class association boat, especially one with a strong do it yourself ethos, can survive perfectly happily with build numbers that would make the big builders give up on the spot. And curiously in such classes events are little less popular because people who are interested in, well, more interesting boats, tend to be a bit more committed. I think the recent IC worlds in San Francisco featured around half the boats built in the class in the last ten years. I bet that will never happen with d0s or Aeros...

Same analogy with AClass Cats; according to press report they had 85% of their members at Rutland this weekend past.

You have to speak nicely to it...

(tube)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogMsD_bbtGk(/tube) is the syntax that seems to work for me.

Umm... so lower case works but copying and pasting the forum code as written doesn't!

I hope the Farr keeps going - it is the perfect boat for lightweights who would like a bit more excitement than a byte.  It is on my shortlist once I finally accept that I cannot hold my 300 flat in anything more than a F1.

Oh it will keep going... even if just ticks along on home builds alone.
