We managed 20 boats at the puddle - biggest turnout this year. Comedy of errors as we managed to forget jib sheets so jury rigged a spare control line then headed out to start as the 5 minute sounded to find kicker wasn't shackled to boom! Managed to sort it all out, start at port end and get cleaner wind and escape the melee and be first to complete a lap!

Made some cakes this morning which also raised a good bit for the event so if every club raised as much per head then the event has been a huge success for the foundation.

Yep great sail, all the regulars where there, but also a lot of people who don't race very much, attracted by the cause and marketing I'd guess

We competed at Rutland. We had 3 race courses with the Solo's as part of their event, junior racers and club racers including the sailability fleet all taking part. Not sure of the final tally, but massive participation. I did it with my 5 and 7 year old kids and wife in a reefed 2000. They were very keen as Bart had been my crew for a bit while at uni. We sang happy songs and talked about all the things the great man taught me about gusts, and wind patterns on the water all the way round. Not a great result, but lots of fun, and still 2nd 2000 out of 5 despite the reef. A great day with many faces who have not been seen on the water in a while. I hope he would have approved.

We had a Laser only Open planned today and converted the first of the three races planned into the Bart's Bash race (incl Radials & 4.7s), and consequently got a lot more entrants...

Fantastic to see 27 Lasers on the River Thames at Hammersmith.

(Btw.... anyone in Central London keen to sail, do come along to LCSC... lots of new younger members joining and as well as more and more Lasers sailing there's opportunity to sail a really modern 2/3 hander on the river as well!...)

I was out in the X1 in Leigh and Lowton, just shy of 70 boats. Great day, sun out, wind a bit shifty but loads of different boats and ages of sailors out.
Just waiting now to upload the results.

massively successful day with the joint clubs on the river blackwater, over 150 boats on the main flee with tornados and 49ers mixing with streakers and solos and everything else in between.

the cruisers had 17 starters and the inexperienced fleet with opis toppers and mirrors had over 40.

controlled chaos and cant wait to do it again!

Turned out 37 at Banbury SC with lots who do not normally race as well as normal culprits in boats ranging from Oppies to Merlins with a good sprinkling of youfs in Lasers. 31 actually managed to finish!

As my normal crew had pulled out on Friday evening as he had forgotten that he was meant to be celebrating his mother's 85th birthday, I managed to persuade a very novice lady sailor to join me in the Merlin and we both enjoyed a pleasant sail.

The rest of the day was spent persuading the witnesses and stewards to complete the paperwork and I've now got to do the results and all the rest of the admin but it will be worth it in the end (or so I keep telling myself).

Hard to tell, small gusts coming from everywhere (Northerly isn't great here) so it was luck who was in the gust on which leg.

Fantastic turnout at Calshot, 50 boats. Great considering we struggle to get 10 on a normal club race. I felt honoured to be part of such a great event, felt like everyone got in the true spirit of remembering Bart. Was a little hairy in places in the Solent chop but proud to see the way everyone came together.

Over 40 boats on Combs....usual turnout about 15-20. Hilarious start line, peculiar wind, lots of sun and excellent barbecue. It don't get much better than that!

Interesting, every single person in our club has described themselves as club racer category, including quite a number of what I would have described as relative beginners and one or two who manage top 10 championship results but predate the squad system...

Fabulous race with Johnny in the 2000. as part of the Joint Service Assymetrics meshed in to the TISC Club event.  60 boats.  F5 (and a proper sustained 6 on the first run) - finished 5th and 4th 2K out of 30.  And Johnny's older sister was 1st, on her 9th birthday, on the short course sailing with her Mum in the Tera, by 7 minutes!

And he forgot to mention he won...

Was a great day, 46 boats is more than we have ever had out, and it was crowded at times.
I'm quite amazed to say we actually raised over £1100 on the day plus all the just giving pages.

168 boats at HISC we were super chuffed to win in a tasar, which goes to show what a great boat it still is. For us though, the real buzz of the day was seeing all the kids out sailing with their mums and dads, six kids out in the bakers RS venture was a sight to behold.  Their smiles told it all. Great stuff Bart would be proud

The standard course length was pretty short, damn hard work in the Musto getting kite up, gybed and down again while avoiding all the lasers who seem no have no concept of the blind spot or how hard it is to alter a course when you can't see what you are trying to miss.

Would have picked a day two sail boat today with a choice

Light airs at Largs?  Which must prove me wrong then - during our race (on a Beneteau on the Medway) I actually predicted the Bash would be won by someone sailing on the Clyde in a F.7!

Our Bash was a measured section of the race.  Absolutely no idea how we did - such is the rate of on-line updating of the results of our local cruiser racing.  Good turnout though.

Haven't raced for over a year and sailed once. But we decided to give the Bash a Bash.....F5 on our stretch of the S coast, finished 8th out of 31 with one out of the blue, unexplained capsize during a tack. I would like to state at this point that we would have won our particular BB contribution if we had sailed better I hurt like a b****rd this morning, oh how I hurt. My hands have gone all soft and I've shredded some fingers. What have I been missing for the last 12 months.

Much enjoyment was had though.

A right old mix at Lee on Solent, we had one start line two courses trainees going round to starboard in a rough square and club racers going round a bigger square to port. Rule number 1 trainees have right of way.
Lots of peoples first race so could have done with a lot less and less shifty wind/ gusty. overall a great fun day but very tiring to race and be part of the organising team and clear up at the end.
4th behind 3 rs400 in my Phantom despite capsize sticking to rule 1 at the 6 minute gun.

Probably the best and most fun day we've had at our place.
Beautiful weather, 'just right for everyone' breeze and an incredible turnout.

Whilst I was our official RaceMaker, it was actually Mrs Fleaberto that nicked all the credit by actually, um, well, organizing the whole thing for us

We were on it from day one so really pushed it to the club and oh my how they responded.

44 'officially' signed-on, with 6 others that forgot...so 50 on the water when we'd normally be lucky to see many more than 10.

Families and Juniors responded brilliantly and with so many kids out in Toppers/Q'ubas/Tera's it was a huge amount of fun - and they acquitted themselves really well too. Lots out there that had never raced and plenty of smiles afterwards.
Just the best day. Families chattering all afternoon, a patio full of people, kids excited about where they'd finished 'In the world!' ....just a lovely lovely day.
Youngest was 7 - winning a praddel (which, apparently, he took into the bath that evening!) with the oldest being 71

A great day for all - well done and thanks to Mrs Flea but well done to everyone that took part.

What a blast!

Was sat on the beach at Studland, recovering from the wedding the day before, looking out and thinking that there must be a lot of fun events going on. Sorry to have missed it.

Posted By: JimC

My uninformed guess is that its an average speed round the course corrected by handicap. Judging by some of the results I see so far the poor ****** have an awful lot of data cleansing to do...

Looks as if the results may be a while away... Sooner them than me: I bet they're looking at a data cleansing exercise beyond their worst nightmares...

Just going to post all the Guinness nonsense. Reckon it took me about half a day to sort it out and I'm not sure I managed to jump though every hoop. Worrying that when I reviewed the finish video I picked up a couple of errors in the text version of the results. And that meant some time paging through some of the worst video I've ever seen! Like the camera suddenly wobbling to the committee boat floor as I bent down to pick up the X flag!

A fantastic day out, much camaraderie, just a shame that I felt like a 90yr old all day Monday. Could barely bend down to feed the cat or tie my shoes.

Correction: Felt like a 90yr old that had been whacked repeatedly on the bum with a plank. Those Mirror sidedecks are uncomfy!

I am not amused. I did have to do that!

I think we had around 35 out at Hickling Broad ; it was windy and the fleet had been a bit decimated in the previous race. Not so many Norfolk punts out in the second race of the day !
Every one was so keen to get away we had a general recall ( which I have never seen before in a club race here) and it took a while to get everyone back and ready to go again
I  managed to fall out backwards on the first beat and then had an unfortunate tangle with a Wayfarer when I got caught by a gust and capsized to windward. I finished, not realising that I had taken out one of their spreaders so retired in the end.
It was a great race, good to see people there having a go despite the gusty wind
A worthwhile event for a great cause in memory of a wonderful guy .......

makes you wonder doesn't it?  Record turn-outs, everyone having a good time, crowded start lines and loads of different boats all competing together and sailors having fun before, during and after, in loads of different places and conditions.... perhaps it's something about 'usual' club racing that is keeping all these extra folks away, rather than a general malaise in dinghy sailing which is oft quoted on these boards, perhaps a new thread needed?

Hope all were OK.
Rule 1 dont hit the trainees/ children should have been applied especially in a heavy scow!

I think I saw Bob there.

After the event I commented on how great the atmosphere was and how cool it was that port/starboard seemed to be overruled by 'try not to kill each other', with us lasers blasting in a straight line whilst the asymmetrics tried to pick a route through.

The bug sailor went on to finish the race so I guess he was fine. Amazing photography to capture it.

Why is it that when I look at the results they are stuck at 102 clubs and 13%? This has been the same for 24 hours I think?

40 boats on our little water meant a crossing course so as I was going down wind the Phantoms, Novas and one Byte where beating towards me....STARBOARD, STARBOARD, STARBOARD....oh shut up!!

I think we have to give them plenty of leeway on this, it must be a nightmare, a bit like preparing your final year accounts when 12 months of paperwork all come in on the same day.
Maybe they have decided to get it all done rather than periodic updates? Either way I'm quite prepared to wait.

Some of the other numbers are changing. In the results manager for those that have uploaded their results there's a list of "files in the queue to be processed" which is currently 49,337, but goes up and down implying results are still being uploaded. It was as high as 147,000 last night.

I am so glad I took myself away from the rest of Sunday's racing and got our results uploaded there and then. I couldn't take the suspense of having to wait several days to see what I'd messed up!

63 boats at Yorkshire Dales - varying from an Inter17 to a Topper 4.2. Results 'board' didn't work so sent by email - hopefully in the queue with everyone else. Followed the template and example religiously, so fingers crossed they shouldn't need to cleanse our data too much.

Perhaps next time, a pre-prepared Sailwave template would speed things along for them?

We had over 90 boats and over 150 people out at Carsington, from kids in oppies to 20ft leadmines.

Wish we could get half as many people interested week in week out.  The wind played ball too, blowing a rookie friendly F2/3 right down the lake giving about the largest course we can manage.  The RO made everyone do 3 laps so some of the toppers must have been out for a couple of hours (front of the fast fleet was finishing after 50 minutes or so).

Is this going to be every year?  If so, great.  If not we'll have to do it again anyway.Smile

Some participation numbers for Adult singlehanded classes on their current very incomplete results... Some popular ones, and some recent classes

LASER     1, 677
LASER RADIAL     953
SOLO     595
FINN     205
LASER Standard     119
COMET     111
PHANTOM     110
STREAKER     101
RS vareo - 57
RS100 8.4 - 35
RS100 10.2 - 21
RS Aero 7 - 9
RS Aero 9 - 7
D-One - 5

Who'd have thought there would be so many Finns! Just shows how little we know about what's really sailed out there, especially worldwide.

There is a problem with the zero data, stu bailey from my club competed i. A zero but for some reason his result is not included. I beleive there is confusion with the d-one and zero data. I know of 4 that competed without asking the others!

Well that's damn peculiar. It now says d zero 5, d-one 5... But all the totals should be vaguely half the final ones.

Still amazed at the number of Finns... Obviously the astonishing numbers they get for their masters worlds aren't a quirk and the big lumps are popular.

Bart was a great Finn sailor and one of the nicest blokes on the Finn circuit. I guess that there are no surprises that so many Finn sailors turned out. He was always happy to help and advise everyone. I see Bart's Bash as a tribute to a great sailor and, more important, a great person.

Everyone please don't use this thread for sad and unpleasant stuff. Pay some respect for a great guy!

I happen to think the Bart bash is a fitting tribute and added so much to so many peoples sailing season.  So often we here about sailing being in decline, but this has helped unite many and bring people out onto the water that have not been for a number of years.  Think of all those boats pulled out of the nettles and used as the y should be.  I didn't know Bart, but he sounded like a great guy and this event is a fitting tribute to a man that was loved by so many and delivered such astonishing results both in life and after.

Hi all

I am just back from a few days holiday with the kids - I don't often get completely away from running YachtsandYachting.com very often.

Please keep this thread on the subject of what a great event Bart's Bash was. It is no place whatsoever for petty bickering.

I 100% agree with Rodney's comment, "Everyone please don't use this thread for sad and unpleasant stuff. Pay some respect for a great guy".

I sailed with Bart at school a long time ago - it was an absolute honour to do so. The best thing we can do is promote sailing on this forum and concentrate on the very many positives the sport has.

Best Regards, Mark
