No, 3k's have a normal one-piece Selden mast (Cumulus section with spreaders). Actually, I think the latest L2's have something similar in one piece:

which is similar to the prototype Frank Bethwaite handed to Laser way back when. Frank said he was aghast when he first saw the production L2 with its two-piece mast, diamonds and full-cut sails - the prototype had been quicker than a Tasar round the course, according to him.

Great for towing behind a big van though :-)

... and, indeed as I found, for roof-racking.

As a Laser Regatta sailor, I was actually envious of people with the Laser Fun which had spreaders (and a two-piece mast, I believe), meaning that, in theory at least, you could get some pre-bend in light airs.

You can with diamonds too, if they're adjustable.  I always assy the L2 diamonds were a Bethwaite thing carried over from the Tasar even though the Laser mast doesn't rotate.

Only if they were swept aft, surely, else how? I spent ages during the 90's trying to work out how to flatten the baggy L2 main in light airs.

As you imply, diamonds make little sense on a dinghy unless the mast rotates.
