RS600 main:repair or replace?

So,

In the past 10 months I've spent about 300 euro getting the main on my 600 repaired (bolt rope tearing away at batten pockets, bolt rope pulling free at headboard). I'm going to have to get it repaired again in another three months or so. Would I be better off just buying a new sail? If I get my current sail repaired again, I'll have spent the equivalent of half the price of a new main. If I was to invest in a new sail, how long do you reckon I'd get out of it (particularly the bolt rope) before I'd have to start making repairs?

You'll get about 18months to 2years out of a new one before repairs are necessary.

As has been said before it sounds like your repairer isn't the best. What options do you have regarding sail makers on your side of the water?

Yeh sorry to keep bringing this up just getting quite frustrated with it. I basically have access to two sail lofts in the Dublin area. The second one I've tried is decidedly better but the costs are adding up. With a shelf life of 18 - 24 months though, it might not be worth the upgrade.

The sail will last for years, and I would expect good bolt rope repairs to last just as long as a new main would last before needing a repair.

Its been a while since I had my 600 but I would expect a good repair for £70 or less.

I've had it repaired twice - and both times it's come to 150 euro. It's almost worth ferrying it over to the UK at this point. I'll hold out on the new sail so. Thanks so much for the input!

A 600 sail is about the most robust sail you can buy, it would last 2 to 3 years circuit racing before it for relegated to training duty.

Have you checked your mast track or feeder doesn't have any sharp edges to damage the bolt rope

The sail does appear pretty much bullet proof apart from that point of stress where the bolt rope meets the batten pocket. I've done everything I can to ameliorate the stress and obviate the need for future repairs but the boat does seem determined to tear the bolt rope at these points. That's a good point about the mast track though thanks - I'll check that out.
