So sailing's crap at it right?  So if so, how comes 30,000 people are reported to have visited the opening ceremony at the ISAF Worlds in Santander?

Maybe it's not such a dull sport after all?

As ever, the UK is different.

it might even have been the 84 LA Olympics that were on when we were on holiday in Spain for our honeymoon and there were bars full of rapt people watching the sailing on national TV. Not quick highlights, but the full real time race.

Not sure how they reacted though when a Frensham bred sailor, Cathy Foster, became the only female helm ever to win an open (i.e. not male or female specific) race at the Olympics, in a 470.

I guess also the abdication of a monarch in favour of his Olympic sailing son also helps in this specific case.

Given the recent announcement in our monarchy, and our Americanised hunger for salacious gossip as 'newsworthy items', maybe we should start some grossly fabricated rumours around parentage...

If the new offspring starts punching photographers, then we will know.

I'd forgotten that it ran in the Windsor family too - maybe we won't know from that!

I think that was more of a Hewitt trait to be honest.

That said, if the kid can windsurf (iirc Ainslie is a self confessed hopeless 'board sailor'), then maybe the lineage is genuine:

Strange - I get a feeling everyone else thinks this is in bad taste... they may be right...

it's friday afternoon, there is no better time for royalist-based bad taste... even if it sends a topic rather off-topic.

I think he's smugly explaining the lee bow effect to her, hence her expression of surprise.

alternatively he's being a gentleman and letting her know it split last night...
