There have been a number of posts about whether or not replica sails should be allowed. For me, I just want a good sail and cannot give a damn about class rules. My Laser has an old rag for a sail so I want to replace it. The choice is bewildering; Intensity, Maldon (standard or premier), Rooster, Sailing Solutions, Ullman, Trident, I-Sail (Any I have missed?) There is a wide variation in price and, I suppose, quality. For competitive performance and durability equal to or better than the genuine Laser sail, which do I choose?

Get a Lennon Sails one... they are faster than the standard.

Can't claim any sort of proper comparison. My first (non premium) Rooster Laser sail was definitely better made than my official sail of the time. However, I never thought it set quite as well. My current replica is a Rooster Premium sail which I'm very pleased with. The cut and the quality is definitely up to and better than the official sails. However, I don't think they sell them any more - or else they are all Premium now.

Another possibility would be a Smiths Covers sail - a bit local, I'm not sure if anyone outside of Eastbourne has one - but those who do seem very happy with them, and some who didn't thought they might have reason to be less happy!

You need to be careful about getting a sail such as the Rooster Premium.

Even if your club allows replicas it might be best to check they will allow a sail that has a different cut to the 'normal' Laser rag. We had a discussion at Hunts and agreed that the 'premium' type replicas were a different sail and were not allowed.

As for replicas, Ian Morgan does a very nice replica (Morgan Sails) which sets well and lasted well. I believe mine is still going now down at Queen Mary.
