You should have thought twice rather than getting a boat just after Hallowe'en  Big smileBig smile

In a way, you're very lucky.... a few weeks ago, your boat could have been "London 2012" or worse still, "Charles and Camilla" !

There's been a few attempts at forum couples; sailor girl could tell us the wonders of meeting a fellow sufferer... LOL At the time, she was suffering from acute forumitis. She's better now but others have contracted the disease...

Is that an open invitation?
The cherub presence on this forum will hopefully be increasing in the next week or two (god help you all) and once ive figured out how to put the damn thing together some swimming practice might well be needed away from the prying eyes of my club (I already have quite a reputation for sailing silly boats )

Sailing and a few swimming lessons ?!?! It's going to be the exact opposite next season : swimming with the occasional sailing... I'm getting a Contender!! Yipee!

As for my "wonderful kids", the elder has already completed many races at sea in her/my Topper and she is determined to win a trophy next year! She came 3rd in a series this year, it's a start!!  Clap Besides, she's been taught a few tricks by Carshalton Thumbs UpThumbs Up

im sure we can make it an open invertation people with boats would be good especially cherubs

And the only time i think u will get swimming lessons if when ur ither crewing for ellie or crewing for stu tinner (dangerous strawberry) because me and frank have only capsize twice and that was when we were racing and frank uncliped to put the kite down and we got a gust and he fell out the back with the spinni sheet round his anckle, the other time in the same race was when we asked me to hold the spini sheet (and the main and the extention) while he dropped the kite but then again we cought a gust.

note:I only ever got wet feet during both capsizes because i managed to jump over leaving frank to swim

Well I cant speak for Ellies swimming skills as ive never met her, let alone had the pleasure of sailing with her but I spent a fair bit of time crouched at the pointy end of 'strawberry (could generaly be spotted on the foredeck attempting to wrestle the kite either in or out of the shoot depending on which way we were pointing) at the draycote open and yes, it was a little wet at times!

Next year, you can come and photograph the hull of my (future) Contender! It'll be visible very often, I can predict  Confused

We sail in Lancing SC and we've got plenty of thrilling events planned for next year... A few opens, plenty of good club racing, with a variety of monohulls and excellent, top-class galley. Big smile Do come and join us... as you might have seen in some of my postings, beach launching can be quite interesting for a photographer !

Yes Anyone can come and have a go on whaam, hmm a Y&Y forum open might be interesting...or is that a lame idea.

Good luck in the Contender BNS, and jesus Ellie and Ed, calm down with your lovers tiff.

Hope to see everyone soon

Oh yeah Ben, one of those photos has you holding whaam well i was clipping on the sail, remeber how long that took, JESUS! Although we got some pretty good blasting didn't we!!!

Jesus. Well i didn't mean quite this soon tbh but aah well!

Also we can't ask everyone to come to our club, im sure not many people are going to want to drive miles to sail at Chew but i may be wrong!

Also we can't ask loadsa people to come if the water level is still pathetic becuase i don't mind ours, but i don't want everyone else to kill their boats paticularly!!!

Anyway Open's take a bit more organising than that, we would need to contact the club, Organise safety cover, Open meeting marks to be put down, food, Race officers...quite a lot of things...and if it was a big thing, we would have to stp genral sailing.

Anyway now ive put a damper on things....

I get what you're saying frank - perhaps we could contact the club and set a date (not for definite), then put it on the forum and see how many people are free that day and then the club would know how many they were catering for??!

Ah...who's a clever girl?!  (Only kidding!)

Why not do a pursuit race to start next season? (at Plymouth of course, preferably Feburary to get new crew up to speed and the boat sorted down here!)

Or a passage race. I recon there are loads of great places for passage races from Plymouth: up to Weir Quay in a stiff SWesterly would be sensational, or out and round to Newton Ferrers in a westerly. Magic!

Lol Ellie, no worries i should be buying one aswell but i'm not so i'm not going to ask you to get one!!! Anyway, i had AMAZING fun single handing whaam yesterday with the kite up, got some SERIOUS speed, could of done with a crew really!

Oh Ellie, sorry forgot to tell you, find it in your heart you forgive us, Whaam is going double trapeze this/next week so company for the crew!

The list of things being done to whaamykins are: Double trapeze, New mast, Paint touch up, New long double tiller extentions for helming off the wire, rudder& daggerboard eventually being sheathed in carbon/fibreglass!!! So now nobody has ANY excuse for not coming out when its howling becuase with the same sails, we wil just have more leverage and slightly more speed. YAY!

Tom there's plenty of water at high tide, it's just spread rather thinly over the mud in places.

Mind you, it caused us no end of bother when we switched from Mirror to LaserII and is probably why my sisters don't want to sail with me again!

Pursuit race to Newton Ferrers would be great. We could tie the boats up to the pontoons, go to the Ship Inn and get lunch.

Now, that's my idea of sailing! Use a boat as a means of transport as well, how refreshing!

And whichever boat I try to sail, I will be last at the pub.... Pint of bitter for me, please Big smileBig smileBig smile
