Is this any madder than the chap who designed the tiny Illusion one-man keelboats to fit the 12m rule? I really love these sort of ideas. It reminds me of the 6ft skiff designs this forum saw. We've seen a few 'Frankenboats' mentioned too, but are there any more dreams that you fear we'll never see taking shape in the garage? Let's hear them all! I find my mind often wandering, considering how to combine the bits of boat I own in a new way. What would a Merlin Rocket mainsail/mast look like, with a trapeze, on that old Cadet hull my daughter is using as a sandpit? Hmmmm... |

I remember a cadet week at Thorpe Bay 45 years ago when anything was allowed rig wise in one race. Cadet with a masthead rigged Hornet genoa looked good - overlap was entirely appropriate for a 70s big boat too. ------------- Laser number 9 |

You'd have preferred a trapeze, Rupert? 
But with that narrow beam you need something that will help balance sufficient sail area to master the large scow wetted area, and the stability of a scow makes it possible. Wings are the obvious answer, esp. lightweight carbon ones nowadays; surprised you don't see more Minisails thus-equipped. Then you'd just need one 'device' pivoted on the transom below the tiller. Aft bridle, off-the-boom sheeting and a gnav and away you go. Wire-to-wire tackers eat your hearts out.
