Hi,

Is this sort of stuff from Halfords the same as McLube and ProLube?  My dagger-style rudder is tight in its cassette (plastic liner, not hairy), I was hoping this might help.

Yes. This is a teflon spray. Prolube, I think, is a mix of teflon and silicone, hence being fairly cheap compared to some of the marine teflon sprays. Not sure about McLube.

Thanks Rupert.  This stuff is only a fiver for 250ml - I assume it is just as suitable for marine use as the stuff chandleries sell?

Can't see why not. I buy the stuff from our local hardware store - seems to do the job.

I sure a purist will come along and tell us what the differences are now - apart from the brand and the price...

I use car cockpit shine for the centre board & rudder sticking issues, really good, cheaper and assorted smells

Excellent.  Thanks again.

Car cockpit shine? Not very up on car cleaning kit - mine smells of old wetsuit boots and has a nice dust patina.

The safety statement lists it as "Toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long term adverse effects in the aquatic environment". Same may be true of pro-lube of course.

Imagine what it does to your lungs...

I imagine that once it has been sprayed on and dried, it is a lot less harmful. Anyone got a can of prolube handy to read?

Another vote for cockpit spray. Just used some to prep a boat ready for sale. It was rather mucky and dull. Tried various other preparations and nothing came close. Boat is now clean an shiny with minimal effort.
