I know that there are some on here with split personalities who have many more postings to their name(s), but I've just noticed I've hit 5000...

I really need to get a life.

Rupert, i wish they would lose the post count, that way i wouldn't have to keep setting up new accounts.

yes 'Merlinboy'- it gets embarrassing when you need to change your username, especially when the OCD kicks in and it forces a change in boat to match the new username too.

Why not just accept you're addicted and leave your names as they were?

Merlinboy? He's still the 6th most prolific poster and he hasn't been active since 2011.

Even more worrying my iPad ID is now also in the top twenty..

Is anyone desperate for me to hack the database and change their post count? I didn't realise this was a service I needed to offer.

it is possible to put them into negative numbers... just thinking of the hassle factor?

If so, please can I go -5000 ... that should last a couple of weeks.

Aha! I get it now: you're worried your employers will notice the high post count next to the "far too distracted from work" caption, and start checking the time stamps on your discussions.

For a small fee, I can make this problem disappear...

I had always assumed that the frequent name changes were for the purpose of distancing oneself from embarrassing web faux pas. (A bit like leaving an eggy one in the parlour) or plain old vanity

I do struggle to work out who is who sometimes. I think Jimbo has had more regenerations than Dr Who

Regeneration serves many putposes, but vanity is not one of them. For a correlation between vanity and post count, check out a couple of the t**sers on the Boards Magazine forum ;-)

Not worried about work, just how pathetic it is to have such a ridiculous post count, changing user name is a little like hiding the bathroom scales.

Well, we could have some members join a select group which sets their post count to a new random number every day. Between 1 and 10 billion.

I actually think post count puts some people off, they mistakenly think that somehow a high post count means your opinion counts for more, which patently it doesn't, not that you'd think it on some forums I visit.

I think my opinion counts for a lot...

...which just goes to prove grf's point.
