I have recently brought this great sailing boat and in need of help in trying to bring it back to its former glory
the gel coat is very bad and im spending a long time removing the old cracked gel coats (by hand)with a very sharp chisel being very carefull not to gouge the body.
has any one got any good advice on other methods i could try
do i have to primer the boat before adding a gel coat if so wheres the best place to get this on line,

Hi Jason I have two of these in France, rescued from a hedge in UK. One is now fully restored and after three sails we have clocked almost 20 knts. It has amazing acceleration which I suspect is why yours has a big ding in the bow.
Hopefully some photos and video in August when we are next these.
Any chandlers selsl fibreglass primer and yes keying this in is important
Keep in touch as I have lots of questions about this craft

by the way ours do not have the deflector at the bottom and if you do not mind spray at 20 knots, the nose shows no sign of pitching down so not necessary

Wow really interesting, please keep us updated with the progress of the restoration.  Does the boat need to be re gel coated?  Could you not resin the hull and paint it?  Probably save a mass of weight!

thanks for all the comments and so quick to ,
steve the bow had a bit of stainless protecting the bow{which has now been removed and there no damage on there just the bits  of filler that was used to blend in the bow guard }
the hull gell coat is badly cracked and this is why i thought it needed to be striped and then gel coated  but im up for any help in deciding what to do

mine had a few bad cracks where the rather overthick gelcoat had cracked away from the glass beneath. The problem is water and air has go under this obviously crack so you need to grind backaround the area before filling
