That is a seriously impressive workout ... I doubt many of the GBR Olympic team could pull off a lot of those exercises ... that guy is a legend ... an old legend at that ...

Haha, he's a machine and also one of the nicest books you'll meet and one of the reasons you should be sailing a Musto Skiff

Because nobody wants to spend their life in a Gym?

Sailing used to be more about the muscle between your ears....

sorry mate you must be so fit that you never need to go to the gym or do any sort of excerise because you are amazing igrf at everything you sail !NOT

i think you find that yes the boat is very demanding and you actully have to put some physical input into sailing it igrf it not just a case of sitting down like you are used which is why its not the boat for you and there is a vast amount of thinking and brain work involved hence another reason why its not for you igrf  most of the guys that choose to sail them are already fit and except the fact they need to be fit serega has been into his fitness man and boy ! he did not take it up just to sail a musto!

just out of interest why do you put negative comments about classes if you hate sailing so much then give it up and stop being a grumpy old git !

I think there is a danger in thinking that the physical/brain effort can be measured against one another asthough they are percentages, always adding up to 100. Just because more physical effort goes in it doesn't mean less mental effort is needed... could be that you need more of both, simply to get around the course.

However, I would hate to see dinghy sailing become a sport only for the physically gifted. Luckily, we have a huge choice of boats, many of them with excellent racing to be had, whether dangling on a wire, hanging from toe straps or even sitting in a seat, so there will always be a boat for me to sail (and use my brain) even when I'm even more in pieces than I am now.

Er.. you asked the reason for the title, i answered, i didn't post this, all the mates I knew have gone on to sail other stuff so the irony is no longer there for me to take the piss, it's a dead issue, take it up with knee wrecker.
Watch the video, the guy's a psycho nutter gym b**tard.. Trust me I've spent more years in a gym than probably you and him put together, but for a sport that requires fitness, not sailing a silly skiff thing, which compared to what I did used to do, requires next to no effort at all.

I can count the number of gyms I've been in on one hand as they were occasions in my early career when I felt peer pressure while staying in hotels for work conferences. I've happily sailed all manner of boats without feeling that I was in some way uncompetitive due to physical fitness. Boats like the Musto, 49er, 700 etc. dont require strength, they require balance and agility which doesn't necessitate the need to use the gym. But full marks to the guy I wouldnt even be able to do one rep of any of those exercises.

Hi Guys
If all you lot are as fit as that why did I end up helping carrying the boats up the beach at Lee, you could have done it on your own!
Admittedly you all looked knackered after 3 races in 5 plus and Solent chop so hope to see you lot again once the club is redeveloped.
Cheers

Being fit won't make you sail better, but it can help you sail badly for longer!

Seriously though that video is mental, didn't even know a human being could do some of those moves

How can being fit not help you sail better? if I train harder I will become a better sailor as I can work harder on the boat!

Sorry, poor choice of words. Being fit will make you sail better, ie hike harder for longer, what I meant was it doesn't make you a better sailor. More of a joke against myself really as I work hard on my fitness but wouldn't consider myself a particularly good sailor in some other areas
