The boat I am currently building is designed to have a sprit boom on a standing lug rig(see diagram) I know this probably isn't the specialism of people on this forum but I wondered if any of you could work out a simple system to allow leach control as it would drive me mad sailing something that I couldn't properly control the sail shape on. My thoughts so far are:

Think you're building the wrong boat then mate... But if you junked the lug sail in favour of a gaff rig main of approximately the same shape you'd have a rig you could have a reasonable degree of control over. Give it a push kicker and you'd have just as much room round the mast.
The point of a lug sail like that isn't efficiency but the ability to wave a largish lump of rag in the air with a minimum of strings. |

Your downhaul will control luff tension, and creating a system to change the angle of the sprit will control (to a small degree) leech tension. However, as Jim and T have said, this is not a fine control sail.
