Well, the time has come...
Does anyone know of an inland DI course running this winter/spring, please? Needs to be somewhere in the south and west ideally, but understand I may need to travel further...
Ta!

Queen Mary SC?
Edit - this from the RYA is better http://www.rya.org.uk/sitecollectiondocuments/training/Web%20Documents/RYA%20Training/Instructors/Dinghy/TRA%20DKM%20Instructor%20Courses.pdf" rel="nofollow - http://www.rya.org.uk/sitecollectiondocuments/training/Web%20Documents/RYA%20Training/Instructors/Dinghy/TRA%20DKM%20Instructor%20Courses.pdf
Although is last years, it may be best to contact the centres to see who is running one.

Or speak to your local RYA RDO as he may know of a local club that is running a course and may not advertise it externally.
Or see if you can organise one at your local club. We have run 1 at Hunts in recent years and now have a good core of instructors who are locally grown as it were.

I remember hearing about the courses you've run at Hunts from Nessa - very impressed with how you are set up there.
Our training principal is on various training committees and may know of something coming up soon, but the more options that are out there, the more chance it can happen when I'm not supposed to be child minding!
Currently, I'm the only on at the club needing the piece of paper - otherwise, having it a Whitefriars would be an excellent option.

Being that your from Whitefriars you have probably investigated this anyway but would SCOEC do what you need? they are just down the road after all. They certainly used to run them over a series of weekends in winter/spring.
their on (01285) 860388; worth asking.

SCOEC don't seem to offer the same range of sports as they used to, sadly.

That's a real shame. In that case I would ask both Bowmore and Cotwold Both of whom have RYA status and principles. Bowmore certainly were always proactive in running courses and would have a requirement to train DIs. Cotswold used to use SCOEC so they must have found alternatives more recently.

Also try Upton Warren. Most RDOs are still finalising what goes where budget and courses wise, but as a volunteer you should qualify for a place on a subsidised course. We have managed to get funding for the last few years, but money is tighter than ever now.

Thank you Nessa, I have emailed them. I have also heard contacted Burghfield, who were very quick to answer and will be supplying possible dates soon.

Dinghy Instructor courses, you're talking about Dinghy Instructor courses there was me thinking wow the D1 is suddenly very prominent in offering that many training opportunities, I really must bone up on all these initials..

BLYM looks nice, thank you.
It may well be that we run a week away with the family around me doing the course at this rate over the easter hols if nothing comes up in term time. I must be one of the few who want to avoid holiday sessions.

There is an Instructors Network page on Facebook where you could ask, probably to good effect, but also think about choosing a coastal venue. You can do a conversion on your pb2 pretty quickly and cheaply, and I think you might get more out of a coastal course.

Thanks Nessa.
A coastal course at Easter is something I'm considering, if we can arrange a holiday for the others at the same time. I'd not realized I could convert PB2, rather than take the whole thing again. Mind, not good at tides...

For pb2 conversion you can undertake this as a 3 hour private lesson. It's not a test, more advice and a run through doing pb2 actions on coastal water.
As for DI, you will be fine, just know how tides work. It is best to do the coastal courses rather than convert later. Feb HT is cold on the water, I found out when doing PBI. It's fine if you are moving about, but you aren't on these courses.
