Using an Android tablet with a Chrome browser I can't see the photos being posted on the forum. They flash up momentarily and then disappear leaving a big void.
It's not a big deal and is probably the result of something I'm doing wrong.....Any tips?

Bound to be my fault. Don't blame yourself!!!
There is a bit of JavaScript that looks for enormous pictures that would not fit on the screen, and then it shrinks them. Somehow that isn't working in Android/Chrome.
I will have to look into it.

Thanks kind Sir .....It's not all of them, just the big ones.

Mags
Take page 11 of advent calendar thread as an example. Before you did latest tweak, I could only see one post with pictures (the one with small old PIC plus larger new PIC.
Now I can see others but still not those posted by Matti, patj, steve and yellowwelly.
Glad its down to you as I was blaming the nonappearance of the pics to the lousy wireless connection in my lounge.

Yes, keep me busy....Mark surely doesn't give me enough work!
I had been testing on the Nexus, and could read the Favourite Photos thread fine. Now you have alerted me to the Advert Calendar problem, I can see the same bug.
Gives me something solid to go on.

I seem to have solved it by randomly touching the Nexus screen. Try tapping, and double tapping, and eventually you might stumble upon the same combination of movements I just did (but cannot recall exactly).
Odd...

I had the same problem on my kindle fire hd, but it's all working fine now. Good effort mags. Mark, give the lad a bonus!

Well my Windows phone shows them all ok.
Mine are re-sized to have the longest side about 1000 pixels which then fits most of the image on screen. Any larger and you spend too much time scrolling.

Funny how no one's noticed it before now. Not something to do with the latest Android update is it?

Could be as I updated yesterday but I seem to recall coming across this problem before. I wonder if it is anything to do with the file size of the pictures? Page 11 of Advent has many pictures. The one that always comes up are the two black and white pictures posted by Richtea.
Tried mags tapping method but did not make any difference. The rest of the pics on page 11 come up after some time.

Why can I see Chris Barlow's Marin 54 perfectly but neither of Jim's posts??
Apart from the obvious answer that only the good pictures show up, what is the difference in the way the pics are posted that means they do not appear???
------------- Merlin Rocket 3609

Gets odder than that. On my android phone I can see Maidie and the Merlin, but not the C class in portrait mode, but if I rotate the phone to Landscape the C class appears, and is still there if I rotate it back to portrait. What's also odd is that its the whole post that disappears, text under the photo as well as the photo itself.
|
Posted By: Time Lord
Date Posted: 23 Feb 14 at 6:17pm
No idea that there was any text on either of JimC's posts - both are completely blank.

I swapped it around so that the text was above the photos, and the whole post still disappears (and reappears in landscape)
|
Posted By: Time Lord
Date Posted: 23 Feb 14 at 7:09pm
OK even weirder! If I look at JimC pics first in landscape, nothing appears. If I rotate the Nexus to portrait, both appear and if I then rotate to landscape they still appear.
Merlin 54 appears in both modes and does not change. Just shows the superiority of the class!
But why!!!!

Unfortunately the trick of changing from landscape to portrait does not always work. If you go to the 'Defeat at the hands of the Europe' thread then iGRF second post does not appear in either landscape or portrait.
Also when you change to portrait, the pics in iGRF third post on that thread vanish after appearing in landscape mode!!!

Folks, I'm very sorry. I cannot work out why on earth these pictures are behaving so weirdly. It is probably to do with whether the image is hosted by our servers (you uploaded it from your computer to the forum) or elsewhere (you used the 'add image' button and told it a URL from elsewhere).
I'm sure it is my fault somehow, so I will keep looking at it; my next window of opportunity is after the Dinghy Show though so please be patient, and I'll figure it out during March if I can.
|
Posted By: JimC
Date Posted: 24 Feb 14 at 11:38am
Its bloody complicated, whatever the problem is. Image size seems to be a significant part of it too, but there are a lot of variables. All the different platforms we have now make it tricky, although its a good thing the lazy webmaster can no longer put up "best viewed in Internet destroyer at 1024*768", life is troublesome. With the http://www.intcanoe.org front page I've even gone as far as having different text content at different screen sizes to try and get what I want...
|
Posted By: transient
Date Posted: 24 Feb 14 at 5:50pm
I have solved the issue for me:
I have an android phone and a Nexus7.
If I use the Chrome browser on the phone I have the problem.
If I use the pre installed native Android Browser on the phone(also available on Play Store) I don't have a problem.
I've now installed the Android browser by Digital Cookies onto my nexus7 and it all works great.
it may work for others.
|
Posted By: craiggo
Date Posted: 24 Feb 14 at 8:08pm
Ok, Mags its definately a browser issue. The 'Silk' browser on the Kindle Fire doesn't display all the pics however if I change to the 'Dolphin HD' browser then they display fine, the only problem is that Dolphin doesnt display the page as nicely and is a bit slower. So it looks like the various android browsers are all handling embedded pics in different ways.
Good luck!!!!

Mags
Now that the pimple at the top of the hill aka Dinghy Show is out of the way can you turn your undoubted problem solving talents to sort out the missing pics problem (flattery may get us somewhere).
As a case in point, neiher of the two posts today under PIC of Day thread (one by er indoors) show up on Nexus 7 tablet running Android whether tablet is held portrait or landscape or after waiting an age. I think the problem started with the last update of the Android o/s.

My pics are all uploaded to Y&Y using the "post reply" so no external links.
Windows XP with IE8 gives no problems at all either posting or viewing.
Firefox with Windows XP also views OK, as does Windows 8.1 with IE and my Windows phone 8 shows all the pictures without a problem. Even through the firewall and restrictions at work with win xp and ie8 I can see all the photos.
So ditch these funny systems and stick to Windows

OK Mags new twist today. When I looked at dinghy show photos thread, the latest post by Multiplex appeared slowly, got to about 75% and then vanished completely. Rotation of the Nexus 7 running android makes no difference and the pics do not come back.

Not enough Ram in your pathetic Nexus thinghy by the sounds of it, close some of the other programmes you're running, those Multiplex shots are quite big files..
What is a Nexus thingy and why isn't it in a nearby skip?

That's a great picture of the size and weight of the laptop I've used for cvrda results which qualifies as classic by computer standards, being ten years old and running xp and ie8, but it has no trouble with the pictures

Me too. It is Weaver Sailing Club. although I have only ever seen anybody sailing there once. After all why would you?
Is Gouranga still on the bridge. I'be been commuting along the M56 for the past couple of years, but don't recall having seen it this time. It was definitely there 10 or 11 years ago though. Perhaps I'm just driving in a daze!!

I often wondered why not, the two sports can be symbiotic particularly inland where they hate even a ripple to ruin their waterskiing and the barefoot boys even more so.
