In what can only be described as a total lack of judgement at a recent AGM, members of H&SSC have voted me as their commodore for reasons I can only guess as either

a)My stunning good looks, wit, banter, extreme sailing skill, experience and general charismatic appeal which will look even more stunning in the new Commodore uniform I'm having designed based on South American Dictators I've admired in the past.

b)Nobody else would do it.

So, clearly I'm going to need help in seizing the opportunity this now affords to get some decent race start kit in the race box, I've seen these external light display systems, I think it might have been Starcross or somewhere similar, so my question, is there a turnkey system or is it something fashioned by individual clubs and without go looking, I assume there are prescriptions for light sequences in the rules.

Oh and there's no need for any of you to salute or call me sir or anything, I'm going to try not to let my new status affect me (Other than the piping on deck, commodores parking place, free commodore alcohol at the club bar, rules that I'll be putting in place in due course.)

Better get yourself on a Race Officer course, I'm planning some events for next year.

Just when we wondered how we were going to entertain ourselves over the cold winter months, along comes a whole new comedy to keep us glued to the keyboard.

This can only be a good thing for sailing as a whole.
Loads of energy, gobsh*te and dictatorial attitude being brought into play.
If Y&Y and the dinghy press are short of column inches over the next 12 months
they know where to go.
I am looking forward to the fall out immensely.

I think perhaps Le Mans type starts from the top of the beach could be on the agenda.
Ideal for Rupert's old Minisail and RS100 owners.
It will reinvigorate the dinghy building and maintenance industry on its own.

I suspect compliant club members will have to get into the habit of saluting the commodore,
and the cunning ones will just get him pi**ed.

Brave New World indeed.
Hurrah !!!
Thumbs Up

Richard Russell does a timing system to control lights, and hooter.
Add that to your budget.
Just remember that as a flag officer you do 3 times as much work as people realise and get no thanks for most of it.

genuinely congratulations.... I hope you find the club receptive to transformation.

Can I recommend your first action is to locally adjust handicaps

Second action, submit your returns to the RYA

Third action, arrange the FOM, with a military parade and a 21 Gun Salute when you cross the finish line.

Going to do all that, although the 21 Gun salute will come from when we route the race through the ranges, try to ignore the wasp sounds and sudden staccato splashes around you..

But no seriously I'm going to try and prep them for a bit more action I'm trying for a fun fund raising year to get a permanent slipway, some changes to the Bar/Galley so staff can move from one end to the other seamlessly as against the two ends of the building they are currently at.

The Race box is definite, any links chaps, and the lights and submitting returns, not sure I've got enough political clout or desire to change what the RYA set even though we got beat by a Laser again on Sunday by 1 sec despite a massive lead..

FOM if there is any appetite for it I'd love to have you all down, might even have to carpet the beach or have launch parties, trying to get some boats down for a demo, can certainly get boards, kites, SUPs as part of a weekend demo day affair.

Getting your returns in means that the timings of your races become part of the whole, so your super-human Laser sailors will be influencing the results of all the poor schmucks everywhere else... Is that fair?!

Carpeting the beach would make your launching and recovery easier, albeit at risk of severely denting the profits of the gelcoat-repair-kit sector.

I think you should hire a documentary-making crew to follow your every action. The movie would of course change the sailing world, as well as make a mint at the box-office. Just remember that Tom Cruise stands on an out-of-shot box much of the time

I'm going to contact the Boat Whisperer, to give us a talk..

Tom Cruise and GRF are probably about the same height, so he could certainly play the "grumph" role in the film. I was thinking Danny DeVito for me.

Audience? I should think we could drum up a couple of dozen, plus some camp followers 2hrs? It doesn't take two hours from Guildford it only takes an hour from Gatwick maybe an hour and a quarter with the roadworks, or were you thinking of sailing down..
