None of these guys racing this year ...

On his closest Endeavour rivals?

There have been many all with very different sailing styles, which is what makes it so interesting. I think Jim Hunt, Geoff Carveth and Roger Gilbert have been the most consistent performers over the years with James Peters and Ben Saxton hugely impressive over the last few years.

9 entries from the RS stable (I assume the Vareo and Feva are still RS boats) perhaps LDC will be sponsoring next year ;-)

Most worrying aspect is that Mr Chandler doesn't appear to have a crew, please do not let it be the demo donkey. We'll never hear the end of it...

No Mate, given that i was his crew for a number of years i thought it was a given.  Alas even at my now spritely weight of 85kg I am apparently too heavy to be his crew. Its all rather hurtfull if truth be told.  When you are as handsome as I, rejection is not something yo become accustomed too.  I am not bitter, i just hope he loses by a significant margin. on a serious note, how does it work for single handers?  The crew listed doesn't appear in the results of the nationals, so no idea what connection he has to the RS100 class(es).

Do you have to have a crew from the same class even?

As i understand it its down to the helm.  I know Steve Bolland used a mate from his club the last few times he raced.  I agree james it should be another member of the fleet.  That would of given me an even greater chance of going.
Been through thick and thin with Chandler, you would of thought he would of dusted his old crew off, but no he is just going to try and find someone better.  The worse thing is he isnt even being two faced about it.  He just said i was too fat.  I am the lightest and fitest i have been for years.  I wish he had of just called one of my children ugly.  That would of hurtless. Cry

I believe they are thinking of cloning Toby Lewis and having one of him for each boat, to make it fair...

Crew doesn't need to have any connection to the class, in 2007 I crewed in the endeavour representing the supernova class and, at that time, hadn't even raced one! The helm had though Wink

yes he should have softened it up a bit mate, maybe having then 'got his wires crossed' and bumped you last minute...

Be thankful for small mercies, at least he said it was a fat and not 'fat and talent' issue.  Plus the D-One's still trying to shake off the ugly tag, so your vinegar stroke face on the front of Y&Y wasn't going to do the class much good if the cameraman caught you in a rare hiking moment.

Not sure it is now Jimbo, but I did send a sarky txt last night.  The sailracer live stream is nothing but useless, the results are all over the place.  Real lying on tweets to keep updated is this really the best the dinghy sailing world has to offer?

That looks the easiest win ever. Counting straight bullets. Has that ever happened before at this event?

How do they choose which classes get invited?  Anyone know?

Knowing Nick C, he will have all the settings written down and recorded for the boat, depending on wind strengths, from the last few events. While others would have been learning the boat and sorting out how to sail it, Nick would have been practising...

My understanding is that the club has to work hard on this. Of course sometimes (particularly with Nick Craig) someone wins two nationals or more and picks which class to represent meaning the other class(es) don't get an entry.

Then classes with reasonable nationals entries 30+ are written to and invited. Sometimes classes pay the entry fee if their champion wants to sail (quite a few champions decline the invite). If the early replies suggest no enterprise, no rs400, no contender etc then other classes get the call

Of course I'm not a rcyc member so I don't know for sure but that's my understanding from sailing it in 07

They always aim for 25-28 entries which is what topper provide in terms of boats but results show sometimes not every entry is taken up

I personally think it's a great event and if I get the chance again I'm there :)

I also think it's great that Topper and the RCYC still make this possible.  Well done to all involved and those who sailed.  Anyone who has sailed out of Burnham in windy weather will tell you it's quite a challenging location with gusts, shifts and tidal eddys to contend with.  To get 7 wins across the series really is something pretty damn special imnsho.

Yep I have to admit it whilst the xenon is an absolute dog to sail the concept of topper providing equally matched porta-loos which no-one races regularly is fantastic for the event and should be commended for ther intentions

Having to find a bandit quick ent or rs400 and then having to beat their national champion in his/her own class would have been a challenge in the old days!

What two classes has Nick one this year then?  i thought he only won the Merlins? Did he Win the 4's as well?  He was very close to taking the D-One title, but got pipped by young Charlie Chandler.

In the past nick has won enterprise, ok and rs400 in the same season, I live in Australia at the moment so I'm a bit out of touch with the uk scene I think Ruscoe I right though 'just' the merlin this year!

Next year I'd like the Endeavour Trophy to consist of a series of races to decide a top 2, where upon they get into the foiling C-Class cats from the "Little AC" and go for it, in a series of "best of 10" races, you can keep coverage of the first bit to some written blurb with a few photo's online, but the second bit should be filmed and streamed online at least.

... pointless having all this sailing talent around and never showing it off.
