I reckon you all had more breeze than what's forecast this weekend...
National Watersports Festival- Hayling RS100 Nationals- Hayling Lymington Town Regatta (D-Ones) - Lymington
The D-Ones and 100s will get by, though the wind won't be the most thrilling, however windsurfing, on shortboards, in a light offshore breeze that won't be enough for planing... eeeewww.
I'm thinking of heading west to Cornwall instead, at least these sh*tey northerly winds can be put to better use down there.

You may have had more wind, but as you say the cakes were excellent and we, I think had more fun.

Not only the cakes, either - Lasagne on the 1st evening, BBQ on the 2nd, with tons of yummy veggie food, by people who don't think that a vegetable is a substitute for protein! And enough lunch that getting back in a boat was almost defeated by wanting a nap...
The sailing was fun, too, especially from my point of view having 8 Minisails out there, including a brand new one.

ironically the forecast for draycote is very nice- from a solo perspective anyway.
the best use of my all weekend pass would probably be sail in our short course racing saturday, go home and go out with friends saturday night, before then heading straight back to the club for the last of the 3 race sundays....
... however, I'm 'booked in' for the NWF and feeling pretty committed to that (not dissimilar from a guilt trip from the class association that's booked an open with a sailing club and the numbers start dropping like flies when the Guru has her say). Plus I'm picking up a new mast there. Plus I've already paid for it....
Committing to sailing events ahead of the forecast... guess I ought to learn my lesson.

And there's a man who has his priorities well organised!
Our social was a two hour wait for a pig sandwich - and the beer and cider were not good either (heart of scrumpy country and all they sold was strongbow and magners .... shocking). Seems that WPNSA asked a load of successful professional sailors what was needed in a sailing centre and provided all of it, to the letter ... but forgot to ask the fat middle aged barstewards who make up the bedrock of british sailing, what should be behind the bar!
Excellent sailing tho!

I thought the dead pig was ok but as a spectator I could not afford to get fat in the cafe. Thank God for Mc D's (who should sponsor British sailing) on the way to our campsite. Tell you what though, Brenda the busy lady from Sailracer sent me class photos and a short video. Brilliant!

Unfortunately Weymouth is not the heart of scrumpy country, it's the heart of Palmers Ales country, and if you've ever drunk that stuff you'll understand why they have no idea what they are doing with alcohol down there.

Yep, nice water, but the place has all the atmosphere of a 1970s concrete multi storey car park.

Well yes I thought that it all felt a bit industrial when I arrived but by the end of the weekend It had won me over.
It's funny how a couple of days good sailing has that effect on me.
Compared to a self catered Club the Cafeteria was a bit pricey and the bar was generic & sometimes closed early. However the social is really made by the mates you go with and the people you meet and not the venue. The best evenings are sometimes had sitting around the boot of a car with some beer and fish n chips.
As a racing venue how and why would you fault it.
Loads of boat parking near the water. Easy launching. Very handy wash down stations. Short walk between water, boat park/rigging, changing rooms, briefing room, cafeteria and even the motorhome/car parking was an easy walk away. The rooms at Portland House are large and well equipped. For those in Vans & Motorhomes the site was well lit and the toilets were easily available all night.
It is what it is.
Fish n Chips in Portland were good as was the Pizza Oven. I never had to resort to Maccy D for food, did it once in my life nuff said.
One thing I did notice all over the weekend was that there always seemed to be youth groups doing some activity or other and that has to be a good thing in my book.

it was Oakham Ales' JBH Roger, at £2.00 a pint. Though you could have stumped up £2.10 for Ruddles.
I'm so glad everyone enjoyed their trip to Hunts. The club really enjoyed hosting the event and by all accounts would be happy to do so again.

Looked and sounds as if it was good at Hunts. Very much at home with the friendly all join in ethos.
I really don't believe in saying better in relation to boats and sailing, I much prefer different and long may it continue
Horses for courses, if I had the right boat I'm sure I would have enjoyed it. My Saturday evening boat is a scabby old Contender with a tin rig, do you think it'll ever become classic or vintage?

... and with CCSC around the corner...
when I windsurf there I tend to sail out of ferrybridge rather than the sailing centre/OTC.

when was it built? pre 1985 and it already classifies within the 'old' wing.

'Fraid not, Nessa - the Contender misses out as being too new a design, oddly. Mind, if an event was contacted, it would be up to the organizers.

Hmm what have I missed here?
One event on dodgy water surrounded & hosted by a club with the atmosphere of a 70's multi-storey bent on starving muslims, or the other with wood bothering coffin dodgers drinking warm soapy water they laughingly call beer and not even doing the decent thing to keep warm..
Glad I was in the Fatherland

God what have you missed while you were away....free love at Weymouth and a haze of funny smoke (just like the 60's....remember?) and "grab a granny night" at CVRDA over hot chocolate! Dare I post this......why not.

Trick is to sail there and then head off to The Cove (short walk away) for refreshment. Having said that, Castle COve is a great club, the other side of Portland Harbour - finest balcony anywhere!

We're not all grannies yet Tick and it certainly wasn't chocolate in my glass! Hunts was an excellent event - well done Nessa & Nikky and team.
