I would say nil as they are only got at speeds in the mid 40 knot range. Didn't Sailrocket set the speed record at 67 knots?

To be honest I thought we were still the in the 50's (shows how much attention I've been paying)

But as mentioned above... these AC72's may be a long way from any thing I sail but they are a proper boat. The race round a course in some proper water, with waves and stuff and even though they are more worried with VMG than absolute top speed they are still the high 40's

When the event is over and New Zealand has won the cup, I'd love to see them take it out in 25 knots of wind and just let rip.

I thought there was some talk of a fleet race with the AC72's after the cup is over. It will be the last time we see these monsters in action, if it happens. But the Halfboat Heros will still be droning on about the golden days of hitting 6 knots.

No, there are no announced plans at all for anything after the Cup is over. You may be thinking of the fleet race that was planned before the Louis Vuitton kicked off. That was canned after May 9th.

Someone has worked out the operating costs of these boats as $200K per day. Nobody is likely to be taking them out just for a spin. Oracle, with all the resources at its disposable, is having great difficulty organising both its boats to be sailing at once.
