... I own a Vauxhall Zafira diesel automatic. Excellent toolbox on wheels, has a tow bar, but very, very boring.

Anyone do better? Or should that be worse?

I've done the race tuned Westfield 7 (Pre-Lit).....sold it to buy a boat, it was less likely to kill me.
I've done big gas guzzling automatics.

Currently got a Kia cheapaschipso and a VW T4 for sailing purposes.

I think the Kia trumps a Zafira. When I first got the Kia home I noticed the reg number first 2 letters were the same as my initials. Total coincidence....so it does have a personalised number plate

Mitsubishi L200 Barabarian - debadged, according to one of my mates I look like a big gay builder, which I guess won't be boring, but not really what I was going for.

My Qashqai+2 Tekna is a wonderfully spec'd and great for sleeping in at events but is the single most boring car to drive!  Having said that its also great for the kids as there is loads of space.

My old Audi A6 estate 2.7L Quattro was very, very boring- a grandad car that kills you on BIK every month, that's got to be worse than anything else posted so far.

I win.... 2007 Focus Estate, boring, towing machine, it does the job and you throw everything inside. Last weekend towed an Access 303 and Pico and had a Oppi on the roof and all the gubbins in the back.

Is there really any practical difference in the boringness[sic] of most of these cars? I guess I'm not much interested in cars so its not for me to judge, but I should have though my Astravan was well up in the boredom stakes. Its dead handy having somewhere to keep the boat maintenance kit though.

however (draws breath for long rant) what is it with these stupid roof rails?  We used to have proper roof racks that we could fix to the gutters on our cars, now we have to have these poxy racks that fix to the roof rails.......but worse is to come!  The 'new' sub doesn't even have proper roof rails it has these stupid things that sit on the car with no gap between them and the roof and are of no practical use whatsoever unless I fork out for yet another stupid bloody over priced set of roof bars!!!!

don't get me started on roof rails... I prefered the old ones that enabled you tie something onto them, now they are all low profile, crappy things that some junky thule thing hooks underneath... might as well not bother with them and hook underneath the door entry.

And Jim... you're right.  All cars are boring.  Finding one that's economical, safe for my kids and practical are the personal parameters I look for now.  I added up how much money I've spent on vehicle depreciation and benefit in kind tax in the last ten years of running my business....  I was disgusted with myself and if it wasn't for one forumite here, I wouldn't have been any the wiser.... cheers Graeme, you do have some merits.

Yep, I had to go and buy new roof rails for the Zafira, as it has the sort with no gap. However, a firm on ebay sold ones to fit that have longer bars than the "proper" ones, so will carry a wider boat.Much cheaper too, though still more than they should be...

her indoors has a useless and dull car.  mk2 mr2.  can't tow, can't put anything on the roof, can barely get a kit bag in it, never mind a rudder, daggerboard, sail, tent, boom...

Do you think that might be deliberate policy?

She's pulled the wool over your eyes. MR2 tow bars can be found. Chunky used to tow his 600 behind his.

As for boring cars, my current ride is as dull as they get. Sadly it's also as reliable as they get. 04 plate Ford Mondeo 1.8 LX.

I've been hoping it would die for ages now but it just keeps going.

Ubiquitous grey estate car which I park at work next to a bunch of other ubiquitous grey estate cars.
Passat, Audi, BMW, Astra, Focus..... all pretty similar.
Fun is putting your foot down and the turbo cuts in like a kick up the back.

And a white transit van (well, himself is a builder) but that is a gonna-be camper for sailing events.

I'd like to add my Mondeo is grey!
