Just seen this on the BBC.

Could be very interesting for the keel-boat fraternity.
Long overdue I would think.

What getting someone who is well versed in CFD and design strength and making it fit for purpose? Such a crazy idea it might even work!

In all seriousness i wonder what the likes of Mike and maybe Adrian Newey could do if he were to turn his hand to yacht design.

Madness isn't it Paul !!!! Wink

And the first person who says that air and water are totally different fluids gets a slap.
We are talking proper design and life-cycle engineering here.

That appears to be more what Mike in on about, designing and testing the thing so they know how strong it needs to be but without carrying excessive weight. This was the issue in the last Vendee I believe, most of the boats were too 'flimsy' (and of the same design) hence the number of keel support failures.

Caterham bought up a composites business involved in the marine sector some time last year (I think it was)- and Gascgoyne has long been an avid sailor- I think last year he sailed from the Monaco GP to the Valencia (European) one whilst the crews were racing their trucks along the med coast.

I would have thought it can only be a good thing in the general scheme of things. An extremely professional, capable and knowledgeable engineering resource, not to mention the commercial opportunities.
