can anyone feedback whether that sailkote stuff is worth investing in?

my spinny has lost most of its crispyness, I wondered if it might help its passage into and out of the sock, esp when its damp

Don't a lot of people use holt prolube around the chute entrance to let the kite flow in and out easier?

Any silicone spray helps.

I have used the holmenkol stuff, it doesnt make the spinnaker crispy though but it does make it slippier for a while.

Fabsil and other cheaper alternatives to Sailkote discussed here:

http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1568&KW=Fabsil&PN=1&title=fabsil - http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1568&KW=Fabsil&PN=1&title=fabsil

I use Nikwax TX.Direct wash-in waterproofer* every few months to good effect on my now 6 year old kite.
[* cheaper if you buy the 1 litre bottle]

We spray with BSK Knitting Spray which is designed to make yarn run smoothly through a knitting machine. Available by mail order from BSK in Bedford. It's good on bolt ropes too.

Haven't tried Fabsil on a kite though we've sprayed it onto our tents many times with a garden sprayer. It's available from any camping shop.

Nikwax?  In a bucket.  Seems to be important to put the article in the hand-warm water, then add the Nikwax (as directed) rather than mixing the water and Nikwax first.

I've applied Fabsil to tired kites using both a manual trigger pump spray and a pressurised, pump-up garden spray. Both worked well.

Should add that I rinse the salt out of my kite every Sunday, and hose the cute with fresh water, which I suspect is at least as important.

Cheers, I'm off to the nearest outdoor shop in a bit, I'll try nikwax on the spinny and lube the shoot - I've got some silicone lube somewhere in the garage for the chute - hopefully I'll get everything slipping nicely

I've tried Nikwax and Holmenkol back to back on two kites I had and found the latter lasted a lot longer. Was converted from there on in!

I got ours Holmenkol'd last year (through Doyle Sails) and it has been worth every penny

But was that the more recent Nikwax TX Version 11.1 "lasts up to 5x longer!"  ?

well, dunked the sail in nikwax and its now dry - feels nice and slippy, also used the contents of the bucket on my cover, judging by the water repellant patio I now have after spilling some , it is quite interesting stuff
