I've got a pump spinnakey halyard system with a Northfix cleat and looking for a new halyard. What type of line? It's currently a a 4mm 16 plait polyester.

In the past I seem to recall seeing RS700s with a 2.5mm D12 rope- obviously grip to hold isnt an issue- but the pump cleat needs to be able to grip.

Thoughts please?

I have run both 3mm D12 with a bit of rope stuffed down the middle where it cleats and 4mm excel racing with the outer stripped on most of it and also 4mm 16plait and I haven't really noticed much difference with each.

So I dont think it really matters

The 700's use a modified cleat supplied by LDC which has an additional strengthening plate welded inside the cleat body. If you want to use D12, you would do well to get the modified cleat.

The 4mm excel racing pumps OK but is a bit more draggy (friction) and can damage your kite on the 700 as it burns through where the kite gets trapped between the downhaul and the bow bar.

What class are you sailing?
