Think I read somewhere on here that wearing a thin raceskin type suit under a drysuit was a good thing?
Is this true or just something my age-ridden brain has conjured up?

I used to use a Gill speedskin under a drysuit... although I haven't for a while as I find that separate trousers and tops (fleecy and polypro) tend to be more comfortable.

I sometimes do if it's really nippy. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've 'over layered' at some points during this Winter LOL .... Thermals, Midlayer, Raceskin, Wooly bear......all under my DrySuit. Mind you, when I tipped it in I was glad of all that warmth!

It depends...

If your drysuit is breathable and it does actually work for you I would rather use a layer that transports moisture fast like ski-underwear.

If the drysuit does not 'breath' (or not good enough) for whatever reason then a race skin is a layer that stays warm even when wet by and keeps the next (Fleece) layer dry.

That's very true- I've been very impressed with my Typhoon Race Max drysuit, totally breathable, I've never had a drysuit like it, just goes to show how much they've come on over the years.

I even windsurfered in it at the weekend... no deathbag feel at all.

OK, so if it's nippy then my rooster race skin on top of my Lifa thermals isn't such a stupid idea? Although it's a Musto drysuit so should breath fairly well.
I've actually also got a set of microfleece lined bibs for road riding.... they could be good on top of the Lifa stuff also.

Pondmonkey...If you look down, that is assuming you can see over and below the stomach bit of your death bag, you'll notice little loop things attached to the deck of that windy board you're overburdening with your great bulk. Anyway, you put your feet in those sticky up loop things. I realise it may come as a surprise to a prematurely aged solo sailor, that such conveniences exist, maybe instead of a go pro attached to the mast, you could fashion a wing mirror extension to the protrusion of your next child, thereby permitting you to look down and slide those yellow welly covered tootsies into the aforementioned footstraps (they're called footstraps, because you er put your feet in them)
Just being helpful as is my way, thank me later...Wink

They are indeed Graeme... very expensive ones too.  Sadly not enough wind to make use of them at this point in time... I barely got planing.

This'll make you laugh... apparently they are no longer available to order for trade accounts.

core contours... the best fruitloops on the market.  In fact the only ones I've ever been able to relax in as I know I'm (less likely) to break an ankle when I catapult.

I hate the on-the-fly adjustable ones that come as standard with boards- they are so uncomfortable, ruck up and feel yuk as you can't seem to get the strap tightness even across all four/three.

I wouldn't want to wear a speedskin under my drysuit, thought like James I have the Typhoon Race Max thing with the goretex feet.  I think it would just be too bulky,  I actually wear ski ing thermal from aldi or lidl which are cheap as chips and plenty toasty enough.  if it's cold I wear a fleece layer over the top of them, and if it's really really cold I wear a gill wooly bear.  Wore that for day 2 of the tiger ad was too warm.
