Tonight I received a call on my mobile from an 0800 number with the caller stating they were calling from Y&Y. The male offering me a deal on Y&Y magazine subscription at a reduced price. He wanted my bank details on a cold call !!!  and said he didn't have internet access to confirm to me via email.  I had a similar offer weeks ago, but they didn't return my call.
Is this a genuine caller ?    or a great scam which I'm warning members about......

A great scam is one that you believe in - this sounds like a piss poor scam to me
I could be wrong - it has been known (I think it was a Tuesday last time) - but I dont think so

Well I was wanting to get some magazines, but due to my job I wasn't keen on giving my bank details out.  They tried to offer me the deal last month, but I was out walking the dog. They offered to call me back and didn't..

Too good to be true,  maybe a good warning for others

We do occasionally run telesales campaigns to our lapsed subscribers and to any new prospects that we have generated through trusted third parties. We are looking into this matter to ensure that it is not illegitimate and I will update you once we've done this. The company that carries out our telesales work is CDS Global and so if you receive a call from someone and they can't answer this question then you should have reason to be suspicious. In any event it is always a good idea to take the name and telephone number of the person you have spoken with as a reference.

Thanks

Further to my previous posting I can confirm that this was a legitimate call.

I'm still not convinced it was a legit call.  Rung back the number and its goes to an answerphone at WHICH.

I've spoken with Will at the parent company.
The marketing was outsourced and then outsourced to another company.  He understands the concerns I had at the time, and going to work on the poor standards I encountered.
Oh well,   if you are happy to give your bank details out to a cold caller, who can't confirm their identity and says they will post out a confirmation.  There are so many none GB based telephone scams going on at the moment.  No bank is going to refund your money when someone strips every penny from your account.
