I think Steve has been seized by the enthusiasm of the convert, thats all. He's suddenly discovered something new, that seems to work for him, and of course he wants to share it. Many of us do the same in different ways when we discover something that makes an impact on our lives

May I recommend Ben Goldacre's excellent book 'Bad Science'.  It dicusses the Placebo effect in great detail and examines plenty of alternative therapies and why they appear to work.  It should be compulsory reading for all arts graduates dominating the national press!

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

that's wonderful, but he should be careful what he puts into his adverts (and, as I think you've yourself explained, "news" from the likes of Rooster IS paid-for advertising, which keeps the site running) lest they be open to ASA challenges. he is, after all, a convert to something that the body of literature suggests is a placebo at best, sham at worst.

I second the recommendation to read Bad Science. It is eye-opening.
