Hi there

I am now the proud owner of Pink Gin and will be sailing out of Port Edgar, Scotland. This is a completely new venture for me. I guess this year I will be sailing close to home to get used to the boat.
Chic (Hobbes Express) pointed me towards this forum so I will be scouring it for hints, tips and ideas on how to get PG up to full speed (prior warning in case you get fed up of constant questions). We've been provisionally set a PY of 880 up here on the Forth but at club events use a rolling handicap system (a bit like a golf handicap, you do well, your handicap reduces which means you have to work harder next time out).

Cheers

Duncan

Hi Duncan

Congrats on the boat and welcome! The projection thread here has really taken off and is well worth a read if you haven't done so already. We've had our proj for just over a year and have had loads of fun in it but have so much learning still to do to get her properly competitive.

Cheers

Tim

Duncan,

You have bought a very well sorted boat, I have sailed on Pink Gin a number of times and against her in my own P762 the Big Purple, unfortunately coming second best more often than not!

As far as PY goes we sail off 880 aswell for a few races at our local club, but find we rate better under IRC, ours is 0.966 for 2008 and PG was well optimised and should be about the same.  A PY of 895-900 would be a bit fairer, I think, but you should have no problem in a good blow or very light conditions.

Get the kite up early, get everyone aft in a blow and enjoy the ride.

Garth

Hi Duncan,

I'm sure that everyone will welcome you to post in the P762 thread - it's not only a source of useful info but also a 'history' of who is doing what and where!

I tried hard in my appeal for a fairer PY handicap. It is still poor but at least it is heading in the right direction. I'll put a fuller post in the P762 thread soon.

Does anyone know which Projection is up for sale at the moment? I'm trying to understand where they all are...

Chic

Thanks for the welcome. No doubt I will have loads of questions over the coming months.
One thing I am after is a good 2nd hand No.1. PG came with a good set (main, No.1 & No.3) and a reasonable spare main (Sobstad). Sadly, the Sobstad No. 1 has seen better days so I am on the look out for a good No. 1 that will do me for weekly club racing without trashing the good set too quickly.

Cheers

Duncan,

I have a Hyde No.1 (kevlar) and 48sqm kite I am looking to move on.  Both good for club racing.
