For club racing, a competitive boat can be bought for £2-£3k.

The other thing to remember is that Merlin's hold their value if they are looked after. It is not unusual to sell a boat for what you paid for it when you bought it.

If you are prepared to do a little work usually stripping and varnishing a good club boat can be bought for less than a thousand.

That's what I mean......£6-£7.....mind you my Smokers cost me £100......we only sailed it a few times then someone offered me £500....well, no argument!

Sounds like a very long winded way of agreeing with the proposition without wanting to say so to me... Of course they're not as viciously expensive as they were in the last days of wood, but its notorious that Merlin sailors have long loved an expensive boat...

They also don't want to let any riff-raff in either. Presumably that's the reason for outlawing any sponsorship on sails or hull.

But less comfortable to sleep aboard - I had to resort to a beach hut instead.
