Confused  sounds like it is going to be there Rupert, I don't think Dan has made the same promise about the Punk though.

The rumour I heard was that the discussions might be a bit more than 'not mentioning it to the forum'.... could we have the very first modern box rule class coming out... now that would be very interesting.

Collaboration not competition... it might be the only way to put a dent in the Solo and Laser dominance for mid to heavy weight sailors.

An F18 style rule for dinghies would be great. The current crop of development classes really don't encourage mini "classes within classes" like the cats do, or at least seem to from the outside. Has this kept going, or has the quest for more speed fractured the clas more than it was when Hobie had the Tiger, and the Hawk was out there, and a few others, but not a massive number of designs.

Mind, the N12 started out like that, with very few different designs. And, I suppose the Merlin has gone back to that, in having one dominant design for a while now. Whereas the Moth has become something totally different, so maybe there is room for a restricted singlehander.

... yep and grandfather anyone in with an EPS, Blaze, 8.1 Lasooster....  none of that handicap b**locks, just race scratch - a proper beach regatta with live bands, beer and BBQs, all ages welcome.

Obviously the new ones would whoop ass, wouldn't they??? I mean a sh1t-hot sailor in a £1000 club race grade Laser with a new 8.1 rig.... s/he wouldn't stand a chance right???

Assuming this extraordinarily unlikely thing was going to happen then the answer is "no, not against the equally hot works sailors employed by the various companies, assuming it goes anything like the F18 class.

simple- ban industry professionals; or at least filter off their results into the 'pro fleet' given the ethos is more the merrier... in fact, given as the event is providing them a marketing stage, charge them more for entry if they don't pay for stands, stands would come with free entries naturally...  quid pro quo clarice.

There's often pro restrictions in yacht racing- there's already a ISAF classification system (though it isn't without its faults)

Way back when, the IYRU set the rules for the A, B and C class cats by seeing what was out there, and making the dimensions just a little bit bigger than all of them, so they would all qualify. I guess it worked - the classes are all around still, even if the B class effectively became a one design.

I wonder if this thing will stick with the rumoured RS Zero name now?
