Do bear in mind that the British Moth was an International Moth design, this could be an International moth that the BM was derived from. Or it could be a minisail but is doen't look to be the right shape for a Minisail....
I am guessing there are no plates in it? Oh and clear out some PMs Nessa please... |

The foredeck looks like an early wooden Minisail, hence the confusion, but
the cockpit and transom are quite different. |

I agree but the minisail has a hole for the mast does it not, this boat definitely looks deck stepped with shrouds (never saw a minisail like that). The Mystery carries on...... |

Agreed. It's also smaller than a Minisail - the wooden ones were slightly larger than the glassfibre ones - over 13ft if I remember right. |

Not the case I believe. The Moth lineage is rather complicated, but AIUI the British Moth was derived from the US Moth, and when US and Aus Moth classes were merged to form the International Moth much if not all of the British Moth class elected to maintain a separate existence. |

I have been looking at pictures of vintage moths in the US and they are all different to each other. Some look like the MO, some don't. I have also looked at Australian moths and the same applies.
There is a good chance it will be on the roof of my car at the Dinghy Show, so keep an eye out for it! |

A lot of 70s moths were scow designs similar to that one (some descussion in Bethwaites book amongst other places), they even tried tunnel hull shapes similar to the votex at one point but these were banned shortly after they were experemented to prevent the moth turning into a 'cat' class. My gut says moth from that picture, does it have a rig?

We really need to know the length, Nessa, with no ebay tape measure involved! The British Moth, by the way, was designed in 1932 as an improvement to a couple of US scow moths that had been brought across to sail on the Serpentine, and then Brent Water. It was never actually raced as an International Moth, as at the time it had a much higher aspect sail than the (Europe style) rigs of the time. However, many different Scow Moths exist, and the rolled decks and daggerboard case are very Int Moth like, so my bet is that the ebay tape is rather out, or that someone decided to have go and enlarging the concept. As with the other Moth on offer, there is no rig or anything. I have, however, just had to a very kind offer that I might well be able to make use of
