And we've got one and haven't yet sailed it - new daggerboard needed. It'll be up for sale some time soon (says she hoping he will have made the board and sorted the trailer)

I remember using them for team racing at QM back in the 70's when they first came out, at least half the boats broke their daggerboards over a windy couple of days, generally when somebody was trying to right them, an obvious design fault.

Mine had a ply daggerboard that was cracked. I had to make a new one. I wonder if any of those were mine. It went down south somewhere and had a horrible hull repair that I covered with a broad blue diagonal stripe. It also had a Lightning main and Fireball? jib.

So, I think it's also time to bring this one back up top, there is such a conspiracy of silence going on it is positively deafening, it's almost as if 'they' the key protagonists, if indeed there are two and they are trying to outwit each other with 'dumb'ness.

This of course would favour RS if they are indeed launching a single hander shortly with their extensive mailing list and direct marketing clout, everyone will instantly know about the RaSer whatever they are going to call it over the DeVunk if indeed there even are two boats and it's not all been a smoke and mirrors forum wind up.

But there is smoke, so there should be fire, hell there should be an inferno of pre- market hype by now..

If it stays this way I think I'll join Peaky and buy that Solo after all..

Of course they're keeping quiet- there's a lot being kept quiet isn't there Graeme...  has it dawned on you the last thing any of them want is the likes of you or I buying their boats....

Sales Plan- best sell them to the less discerning punter who thinks it looks 'nicer than the laser' at the Dinghy exhibition...  or at least those 'dedicated early adopters' that'll put up with paying for the beta testing before the fixed version is released down the line; or as with the case for some, the foibles are well and truly discovered and the product is donald ducked from a marketing perspective as no one appears to sail them anymore....

I can understand them not wanting some huge Phantom reject sat in their little boat, but a lithe svelte pussy magnet like myself?

It's times like this that I so miss my xtranormal subscription, I could have had a ball with the high level conversations at RS & Devoti towers...

I know, I know... Performance Boat Riders with charisma, charm and access to cheap credit, should be sought after.... or else you might as well go get that wooden coffin you damaged and save your Mrs the heartache of finding another one down the line.

After the trouble you two caused last time two similar boats were launched at the same time, i am not surprised both companies want to keep this forum out of the loop. :)

Trouble? I don't recall RS complaining at all those forum driven pre-orders and first Nationals, i seem to remember sponsoring it as well, so not our problem the product didn't live up to the hype created for it or more likely the market didn't have the sailing ability to cope...

This time could be very different and they are going to need bigger numbers i would have thought and quick if they are going to take on the Laser & Solo and both their legacies.

Keeping schtum would be a far bigger mistake than worrying what a couple of forum t**sers think and say, it's not them anyone should be worried about, it's what all the folk who read and don't post think and for every one of us there are hundreds of them, all with their own minds, that guess what, they make up on their own.

I think by trouble Duncan is referring to the D-One verses RS100 thing... I love revisionism, all I recall was there was one highly overpriced boat with a questionable first draft in the aesthetics department, launched at about the same time as another boat from a well known brand in the UK- but this one was priced sensibly- and it looked good.  A recipe for success... especially once engaged within the sailing community and a pre-order book of the best part of 200 units were sold before the first one landed.

Pricing's interesting... the pound was on parity with the Euro at this time, which made the expensive one even dearer in relative terms.  At the same time the thai bart wasn't anywhere near today's strength, making landing the cheaper one, well, cheaper.

But economics aside, trouble came in the form of handling the forum- or more importantly handling forum contributors off it.  One engaged, got them involved to a safe level, be that sponsorship arrangements, marketing assistance, web development and online community building.  Not to mention the other guys who helped assemble training guides, bimbles and pimps.    The other sent stroppy emails with less than veiled accusations of undeclared commercial interest....

But this is all product launch stuff, irrelevant now as a forum might help you sell boats to people, but it won't help you retain them in the long term- but product launch is still very important, here, now, talking of this RS50 or the Punk, and is something you can't escape by simply keeping quiet.

The truth for me is that I just read that neither party has the same level of confidence this time around- despite the products arguably being better suited to the demographic who can afford them.  And I don't blame them for the lack of confidence, the market has contracted further, the economy is weak and credit is less abundant.  I wouldn't take either on commercially, but then I'm now so risk averse I doubt I'd even buy either one for a good while- just like most folks I guess, I want to know if it will survive- chicken and egg.  But I applaud both for doing it now anyway- someone has to try and move the game on, even incrementally ... assuming they pull their fingers out  Wink

And Graeme's right... lurkers are were it's at.  Look how many came online here during the RS100 thread highlights???

There are no new RS boats mentioned in the show programme, or the Punk for that matter, so it may well be that RS and Devotti aren't keeping secrets - maybe there are no secrets to keep? Or maybe they feel we are producting more pages on here talking about something we know nothing about, so there is no need to say anything?
