I did last year's autumn series in my 100 at HISC. Hated it, mostly. Sailing RTC on Frensham is far more fun. And yes you can be competitive. My 9 races in this summer's Wednesday evenings were all bullets apart from one 2nd ( to a certain Mr Craig) and one third. This against some pretty decent sailors in a wide range of boats. But then again I am racer, not someone who just wants to whizz along on a never ending 2-sail plane.

you do use the 10.2 rig inland though mate, with your athletic build that's got to be an advantage on those single sail legs.... that's not a criticism, choosing the right weapon for the task in hand sounds like a good idea to me.
No need for any rules and regulations....

And have to sail to the 10.2 PYS as a result Just like I could choose to sail a phantom, or am free to put myself at a disadvantage at a laser masters event when its F5 and I am giving away a couple of stone. |

Agreed- just putting your comments in context for AndyXS- he's a 17 stone fella so his experience will not necessarily be the same as a guy using a much larger rig than he would normally use across the entire wind range.

I'm the same as Andy and experienced the same thing as Clive... I've actually had better results RTC than W/L at my club.

If the W/L is against boats which can soak lower without losing as much VMG (to cross threads) then you will have problems. W/L seem to work best in class racing. |

Not much has a better vmg downwind than a 100!
I was sailing against a big fleet of 400s and upwind it was impossible to get keep clear wind and a lane. |

Surely that would apply in a RTC race as well?
