But I would like to race with lots of ppl otherwise I might get a Finn
Eh?
RS100 attendance at the nationals is below that of the Finn and seemingly dropping year on year (plus that's the combined number for all rig sizes).  If you're of a certain age you can also travel to Finn events throughout Europe, including the Masters Worlds which averages 200-250 boats every year.  Is that enough people for you?
a battered devoti finn
I'm not sure they really exist.  Finns last a long time.  I was at a Finn training day yesterday at West Kirby and there were boats aged from 2000 - 2012 and the older boats seemed just as fast as the newer ones.
Mine is a 1997 hull (with plenty of use - UK first then sold into Holland, back to Scotland, then London and now with me in the NW) and a 2012 mast/sail.  At no point do I feel that I'm at a disadvantage due to the age of the boat.  Indeed the Olympic gold was won in an 8 year old hull.

I don't really get why you guys are comparing a Finn versus a 100????? Totally different in every way. If your large enough to get a Finn then get a Finn.

Used Strava to record a race we had on Sunday blasting down the river Tay.
I'm sure there's a sailing version but still gave results for distance and speed etc. not sure about the elevation????

i guess because the 10.2 and Finn cover similar weight ranges?

anyway, plenty for sale on Apolloduck.... 11 I think, so now's a good time to join in the fun with the second hand prices coming down to below new laser territory.

I guess the battered Devoti Finn will be still going strong in 10 years time, may be a little more battered but still match fit, all one can wish for in a boat really.

A battered fin was a relative term, accepting they are still fast nice boats. And the lack of depreciation is a good thing as well.

Accepting that they are different to sail yes but the larger sail on the RS100 covers a wider weight range and at the moment I cant travel to lots of events but it would be nice to do the nationals and I am hoping a northern traveller series gets some momentum. The Asymmetric adds a nice fun factor to sailing the RS100 which is always a nice bonus when handicap racing.

Perhaps in some peoples experience but I also think you'll find there's plenty of 100 owners perfectly happy to handicap race and take whatever course gets thrown at you, it's still a fun boat to sail IMO... but I'm not bothered if I don't win every time, whereas I am bothered if I don't feel like I've had a good time 9 times out of 10*!

*accepting that sometimes my inept boat handling leads to much swimming frustration  Cry

You are right, I ought to qualify that by saying my experiences were on a small lake (although still the largest in the Cotswolds  Confused)  Maybe getting a long downwind section makes that uphill slog worthwhile, however I remember looking at my stopwatch and rarely getting more than a minute between hoist and drop....  and that was sub-planing, drifting, central UK crap wind.

location, location, location.  Hence why I'd given up club racing it to focus on the circuit, something that seems to be in common with some of the D1 fanboys too.  I guess the ideal situation is somewhere like Hayling, Parkstone, Gurnard or Datchet- where there's enough racing to get decent fleet turnout- and you all face the same challenges RTC, so it's at least even, if not optimised for the 100.
