And that pretty much ties in with the Asymmetric Canoe being 4% quicker than the (older, one design) Int Canoe with no kite.   Just feels 95% slower !

I remember, if you lost the use of the kite in a B14, you were totally cream crackered.  You'd be lapped in no time.

Even if a kite boosts your downwind speed hugely, it can only make so much difference to your race time, unless there is tide involved.
Say a kiteless B14 went up and downwind at 8 knots, while the kite took it up to 16knots VMG.
Upwind VMG is about 6 knots, so a mile beat takes 10 minutes. Kiteless mile run 7.5 minutes, with kite 3.25 minutes. So you'd be lapped in a four lap race, just!
Hardly 'no time'.

For me, part of the appeal of the 100 is that it rewards decent technique and a bit of practice without the kite up, every bit as much as it will punish you if you don't get it right with the kite up, going quick RTC is all about maxing speed and course between marks (with tide 'n all) kite or no kite, really looking forward to this weekend!

Agree getafix - knowing when NOT to put the kite up is a very important thing to learn. I guess if I ever go down the Vareo route I'll have to learn that skill. Meanwhile, still trying to get it right with just the one sail.

Guys,

I see you've got your Nationals at Hayling on the 31st August later this month, if any of you fancy calling into the National Watersports Festival party in the evening, then you can buy tickets online here.

All the best and praying for lots of wind that weekend!

Bit light on entries; at HISC you'd expect the home fleet to boost numbers

it'll be bound to pick up nearer the date- especially with late entries from the local fleet once windguru has said her worst.

A great breezy weekend up norf.
Had the kite halyard shackle at top of mast decide to unwind itself which was a little tricky. Alot of halyard suddenly dumped on the deck!!
