I don't get it norbas? If you at going to try and make a post in the interest of 'fairness' I was merely pointing out that there are enough RS bods posting here to make it more than 'fair' but in the interest of 'fairness' I will keep my personal thoughts to myself. For me the sad thing about this whole mess is that there are obviously pots of happy 100 sailors out there (still question if there are 400 of them mind) and I can't see how the whole process has benefited any of them!

I was just being flippant. Having just bought a 100 this thread has some pretty useful info in it for a new 100 sailor. Unfortunately it, like many of the threads on the forum, has spiralled (degenerated on some pages) on to some very tenuously related topics compared to the original topic. That's not a dig at you personally btw just an observation from a someone just starting to post rather than lurking for years.

I just lost a complete post, going on about how RS do a good job and y'all shouldn't be polluting my nice 100 thread with your D1 crap and that it's 300 not 400 since they started at 100 and at about 100 boats a year (this is the fourth production year) it's about right given the global nature of their business.
Don't take any notice of them Norbas they're bored and one of them's brain addled from humping too many D1's. |

I have no vested interest in any particular brand, you'll have to get the bee out of your bonnet.

Graeme- on the 11th March, one sailor posted a result with a sail number 469- it's not unreasonable to assume that sail number 500 is not that far off, if not already in circulation somewhere around the globe.

RS are not IME the worst offenders on sail numbers.
As for 400 boats = 100 boats at the worlds, come on be serious. Think how many boats that would mean at Laser worlds for example, even if you just took the last 4 years production. I have vaguely observed, but without taking the trouble to actually calculate the numbers, that it appears that the more popular the boat is then the lower the *percentage* of the owners who actually do open and championship events. Well that would mean 369 boats are 'out there' which given it took until late summer 2010 to get to 58 (I was going to wait for that number) and they are building for the centres and the US market, I don't think it's an unreasonably high number for what is a four year production run..
What are you thinking? They missed a few numbers? like 100's were year one 200's year 2 and so forth? |

FTFY- the 'US' markets these boats as 'one person sportsboats' to avoid association with dreaded dinghies which are just beaters for college kids.
