The RS100 is only available for sale new as an 8.4 or 10.2.

Some buyers also chose to purchase an additional accesory 7.4 sail - maybe other members of their family or windy club racing or getting to know the boat. Either way they still have the 8.4 or 10.2 with the boat.

It is not included in the current approved rules so you officially cannot race it at a RS class run event. The rules currently say the RS100 can be sailed with a 8.4 or 10.2 sq m sail..

So you can buy an RS100 that is not permitted to race at an open, seriously?

If you follow the letter of the rules that is the case. Now I would hope that RS would tell you this when you buy it.

I've spoken to RS about the lack of official handicap for the 7.4 and am told it's simply down to no clubs having submitted racing results on it. That'll be rectified this year I'm sure (by myself if nothing else).

So many RS100 owners have commented on the omission of the 7.4 in the proposed rule amendment that I'm 99% sure it'll get revisited so it'll be included. A case of watch this space...

I'm pretty sure Jane (Gurnard) used the 7.4 sail was used at last years Nationals and there was no issue there. Would need to drop her a line to confirm though.

It's a good sail for training / high winds and has made the 100 more accessible to me whilst I gain my confidence. I for one am glad it's there, but also bought an 8.4 at the same time so it's there for when I'm ready to move up. I'd be interested to hear from other 7.4 sailors on their experience, but I'm not sure there are any here?

Oh, and one last thing... dragging your boat across the shingles! Poor boat. Fortunately Eastbourne has got a pretty decent RS fleet so we're all used to helping each others boats in and out of the water. You'd never even consider dragging the thing.

look for white sail squiggles vs black sail squiggles racing as one fleet... note the irony of the which one is actually in front at the point the photo was taken.

I can count 9 boats... good to know that fleet has reached enough of a 'critical mass' to justify the split.  Confused

'A french kiss in the chaos'.... well now, that is apt isn't it?

Gurnard run their 7.whatsit off 1025 PN... might be worth hooking up with Mark Harrison on the class forum for more specific details.  Thumbs Up

Sorry, I wasn't clear... I meant 7.4 rig sailors experience / thought of why they got the 7.4 in the first place.

ESSC is also running off 1025. Seems to work for now.
