I've had both good sales and bought equipment well from Ebay.

The trick perhaps is to get into the Ebay mindset, in that you understand from the off, that you will sell your unused spare wetsuit/drysuit/oilskins for next to nothing compared to what you paid for it.
When you buy, provided you have done your ebay market research, you will get a great bargain.

Swings and roundabouts..it helps ease the pain.
I've bought great Merlins that needed some work going for a song, 1 year later back on the market on Apollo duck and I've recouped my money, and traded up to a newer boat with the profits. Just work the system better and quit moaning.

Too many toys..not enough time

Not sure anyone is moaning, i for one have done better than most playing the used dinghy market.  Mainly using Ebay.  However the charges to sell larger ticket items are too high for a company like ebay who must achieve a kind of economies of scale with the volume of listings!
My point is that a forum based classified system like that of Bikeradar would serve the majority of the dinghy market better!  There is NO classified system to sell used kit at the moment, other than that of the association forums.  So i think there is a massive hole in the market for Y&Y, to capture some more traffic!

You can't beat eBay for some things - I recently bought 5 M&S top quality shirts (£40 each in the shop) , used but immaculate, for £9.50, including postage...

I have had good experiences buying used blocks and cleats on there as well.

We bought a boat from there once, was a bloody good buy.
However i had a loft full of brand new laser sails to get rid of, the CA requires a membership to post on it, didn't get anywhere with apollo duck so stuck them on ebay. got like £250 a piece which is not to bad, although id have thought they would go for more as they were brand spanks, but i was paying £50 each fees! which was mental. Didnt really realise until i got the bill at the end of the month. In hindsight should have joined the CA or payed their fees
Some things are a good buy on Ebay, my missus has a knack of finding very cheap things on there, but when ever i look, the things i want i just think "you want that much for that old piece of crap!" but people pay it!
A couple of years ago i was looking for a new road bike and thought ebay was the most amazing place ever for buying one......my mate bought a 4 year old bike for £350 which cost 2k new! but now i look and i think im not paying 200 quid less than retail for a 3 year old bike with buckled wheels!
Anyway rant over, funnily enough i was getting rather annoyed with it last night, then i come here and find im not alone.

Im just waiting for a D1 to pop up £0.99 no reserve 1 hr left lol........until then i have to keep convincing the better half that a D1 will be more beneficial to us than a new kitchen!

James, I will stick a D1 on ebay for you mate, 99p starting bid, that way you can convince your other half that its a real bargain and that you just got carried away in the auction Wink  Alternatively we can speak with Rodney and do you a deal, buy a new D1 and get a free Kitchen..Obviously the price of the d1 may not reflect the true list price.

But honestly it would be a nice to have you join us pal, just please dont call anyone a C*£t lol LOL

but does the kitchen have a built in coffee machine? a stainless range cooker, granite work tops oh and and the extension to fit it in?
See i have 2 issues here, firstly i can price for building work and exc labour we are looking at 12 grand......double that for mates rates labour.
Secondly when i think of money i think in terms of boats and sails. I.e. last month we spent a spinnaker on carpet. And this carpet has no effect on my boats speed at all :(
Some things can be written off under sailing.....i.e. the tiled floor in the conservatory is justifiable as i can hang my sailing kit/sails in there to dry.......as would be bifold doors as i can then wheel my boat into the house for those winter gel repairs.......but a kitchen doesnt cut it for me. Aparently its what women want, but i cant even remember the last time my missus spent long enough in there to make anything decent enough to justify the money!
A D1 on the other hand..........

They look good Ruscoe, I keep meaning to get to lymington and steal one of the guys down there for a few hours. Is the Demo boat still there?

Yeah a new kitchen won't aid sailing a D-One for sure... they're all dieting to try and get on the wide wing setting for next season.  What's the point in a new kitchen if there's no steak being cooked or beers in the fridge?

And just remember D-One Dieters....

James,
No the Demo boat is at Oxford SC now, we have 3 boats there over the winter and a few others are coming to join us including Nick Craig so we will at times have upto 7 boats out.  You are welcome to come and have a go at any time pal, just PM me here or join the UK D-one FB page.

Russ
