Maybe if the class invested its resources in marketing, rather than funding training for those already converted, then it would become more popular and more attractive to a builder?  Thus making this page more relevant...

I do not believe that there is anything stopping British youngers entering the Youth Olympics if the class could provide the quality of training which would make it worth them going...

I have always found people are willing to pay for the quality that they are getting...

Without starting an argument but plenty of people buy apple products!

The coaching costs, compared to the cost of getting to and racing in the YOGs would be relatively small IMVHO.

So am I reading this right, there is an Olympics for youth, that we don't send a team to because the RYA favour that knee busting beach toy with a radial sail instead?

Sounds like a good sponsorship opportunity to me.

I think the fundamental problem is the boat just ain't 'that different' from a radial, in fact it's arguably harder sail on the sea in normal regatta conditions.  (my sister had one when we were kids, they got blown to sh*t long before the radials and full rig lasers came in)

That rig must be ten times more adjustable than a frigging radial, had the EPS not come along, it was my first choice as a lake boat, with a rig I actually understood.

So is the boat unmanageable because it's too short? (That was my issue with it, but have since changed my mind)

to put this in context, my experiences were with the older rig on the sea; maybe the newer one makes the hull more easily driven through chop, plane earlier downwind and offer more stability on gybing, but eaither way, the platform's not been altered and frankly I didn't think much of it, nor did many others I knew... hence the reason they bought radials instead.

the RYA choose to put theri money into classes where there is strength in numbers, which pretty much ensure talent and determination will rise to the top.  As Jon said, there is nothing to stop individuals or the class getting a programme together to send kids to the YOG.  Why should the RYA do it?  They already fund a pretty successful system, why should they diversify into an event that is not yet widely attended?  There were just 29 sailors in the boys race in Singapore.  The RYA's money is better spent preparing sailors for the ISAF and individual CA events.
the same, but different...

It's not that I don't think the c2 is a good boat - we have one after all, and I have its big brother - but I don't see why there should be any obligation on the RYA to fund training for a minority event.

The grown up Olympics is a minority event, too, really - just one person per class from each country, and not even many countries represented.
